Belgian geologist
to speak tonight
John Verhoogen, onetime chief
prospector of the Kilo-Moto Gold
mine in the Belgian Congo and
professor of geology at the Uni
versity of California, will speak
on "Temperatures Within the
Karth" tonight at 8 p.m. in Sci
ence 16.
Verhoogen, a native of Belgium,
is sponsored by the American
Geologic Institute as the Sigma
Xi lecturer. He will be at the
University through Wednesday.
Verhoogen was graduated from
the University of Brussels in Bel
gium in 1933 and received his
Fh.D. in volcanology from Stan
ford University in 1936. He spent
six years in Africa first with the
Kilo-Moto Gold Mines and. later
as an engineer for the Belgian
Congo government.
Mike Rose withdraws
from sophomore race
Mike Row, a candidate for
sophomore class vice-president,
withdrew his name from the
ballot Monday, The Kmcrald
was informed.
Rose did not give any reasons
for his withdrawal.
