Oregon state division of Amer

Women will be held in Eugene
Thursday through Saturday.
Chairmaned by Mrs. William C.
Jones and Miss Nina Kitts, the
convention will open Thursday
afternoon at a regular session.

to the group the same evening
on ‘The Impact of Economic Pres
sures in the Pacific Area."
President Wilson and professor
of physics Raymond T. Ellickson
will address the delegates during
the Friday noon luncheon. Wilson
will discuss the topic. "Education
for Women" while Ellickson will
speak on "The Catholic Quality
of Learning."
A special exhibit in. the Mu
seum of Oriental Art will feature
work of AAUW members and
will be shown Friday afternoon.

inger is the juror for the exhibit
and will also discuss the subject
"Learning through Looking.”
Vaasar profeasor to speak
The Friday evening Centennial
banquet in the King Cole room
at the Eugene Hotel will feature
Mabel Newcomer, former profes
sor of economics at Vassar Col
lege. She will speak on ‘Taxes
and Prosperity.”
The final discussion will take
place Saturday morning when
Purveyor of Books at Reed Col
lege Richard Abel speaks on
"New Coverage for Recognized
Communication Materials."
Registration
due for rush
Informal spring rush, which
began Monday, will continue until
May 10.
Open to freshmen and upper
classmen, this rush period finds
the majority of houses open for
rush. The names of these sorori
ties may be obtained from the
Dean of Women's office.
Panhellenic president Bunny
Brissenden has stressed the im
portance of registering imme
diately with the Dean of Women.
Deadline for registration has been
set for April 27.
If a rushee is unable t9 attend
a rush date after accepting, it is
necessary to inform either the
Dean of Women's office or the
Panhellenic office in the Student
Union.
Any women with questions con
cerning the rush period are asked
to call or visit the Panhellenic
office which will be open Monday
through Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.
during rush.
Unless otherwise notified, dress
for the rush dates will be campus
clothes.
Grant deadline
set for Friday
The deadline for the return of
applications for the Hazel
Schwering scholarship has been
set for Friday at 5 p.m.
The letter of application should
be turned in to the Dean of Wom
en’s office. The scholarship of
fered this year is for $300.

“quite successful."
Miss Brissenden explained that
the group discussions of the two
days were centered around four
basic topics: rush procedure. Pan
hellenic's role in political Issues
on campus, methods to increase
interest in cultural events, and
aims and purposes of Panhellenlc.
The proposals resulting from
the discussions will be “worked
on and extended" during ihe next
year, according to Miss Brissen
den. She also expressed her hope
that the women attending the
retreat would "pass on to their
houses decisions reached."
Present at the retreat were the
old and new members of Pan
hellenic council; Mrs. Oolda P.
Wickham, Dean of Women; Mrs
Thaxter Reed, president of City
Panhcllentc and the president and
rush chairman from each of the
sixteen sororities.
