straight times for six, six. and

to Tourvtlle on the left side for
15 more yards, and a first down
on the Cougar 12.
With one eye on the clock 'Just

Crabtree gave to Morris on a

year. Morris easily kicked what
turned out to be the games de
cider.
Cougars Bounce Bark
Fa' k shot the Cougars, though.
Almost as quick as center Dave
Fish kicked off for the Ducks.
I lie Staters shook Newman loose
He threw to Klllngson for 17
vards, and the Cougar end made
the game's best catch with a
twisting, sprawling catch near the
north sidelines.
Then Newman threw complete
to halfback Laroy Rath for 11
yards, and followed this with a
perfect draw-handoff to Stevens
up the middle for a 12-yarder.
Kllersiek ran for seven ami Stev
ens pushed for nine yards, and
with the hall on the Duck or.e
yard line, Stevens punched for
the score Aldrich converted for
a H-7 hall game.
When the Cougars sen r id
minutes later, It was a play
from the Duck l«*nch that saved
a It It standoff. Chuck Os
tMirne, at fullback, getting day
light from a huge hole opened
by guard Harry Mondale and
center lloti l*eterson, dove for
the upright ball as Newman
swung his foot.
"I didn't think I could block
the kick." Osborn* happily re
lated, "but I could see his foot
aimed toward the left when I
Jumped."
By that little margin, the hall
'eft Newman's foot, hit the post
upright at the cross bar and fell
free on the field.
Coach Casanova was a humble,
happy person in the Oregon
dressing room hysterics minutes
from the final gun, yet he had
group of his performers. "Shan
ley and Morris were great," he
said, "and Mon dale, Wheeler, and
Welch defended real well.”
"We were tired in the last quar
ter," Cas admitted. "But they
defended us almost too good.
They’ve a good defensive ball
club."
Sutherland frauds Ducks
Sutherland, too, thought the
Duck's defense meant the ball
game. "They should be compli
mented for their fine spirit," he
'♦aid, "They don't make many mis
takes, do they?"
The great Oregon victory was
tainted somewhat early In the
opening quarter when starting
center Norm Chapman, rushing
after an Oregon punt, was nailed
by a Cougar blocker, and suf
fere 1 a possible dislocated ankle.
The Medford senior was carried
from the field, but x-rays Mon
day, will reveal the complete In
jury.
And about the Hose Bowl*
"They're all tough from now
on," ( as said with a smile.
"How can we think about the
Rose Bowl?"
Yet the 40-year lid on the cov
et e<i Pasadena glory lifted par
