The department of political sci ence here and the general ex tension division of the slate sys tem of higher education are spon soring the institute. Speakers include Edwin Noutae. former chairman of the President's Council of Economic advisers; and Wealey Ballaine, piofeasoi. and Charles Ziebarth. associate professor both of the school of business administra tion. The program, "Management and the Region," is designed to give local executives a single, in tegrated picture of business and economic trenda affecting the Portland area. Factual material will be presented on some of the long-range economic trends af fecting the Portland area, the state and the northwest region. Among subject* to be discussed will be population changes, latest developments in transportation, power and forest products Indus tries. Plans Announced For Student Week Two different rushing sched ule* have been set up for Univer sity students during New Student Week next fall. The first, running from Sept. 17 to 19, w'ill be a pre-rush per iod for sophomores and juniors. The second, slated for Sept. 23 25. will be the regular rush for freshmen. New' Student Week runs officially from Sept. 18 to 25 and the two schedules are de signed to fall so that they won’t interfere with the beginning of classes. Sept. 26. Other plans for New Student Week arc being handled by six different committees which are coordinating plans for the seven day period. The six committees and their chairmen are: programs. Sally Kyan and Jean McPherson; men’s activities, Don Smith; women’s activities. Marcia Mauney; Eu gene students. Ann Pettersen; public relations, Helen Ruth Johnson; and evaluation, Mury Gerllnger. According to Miss Pettersen, anyone wishing to schedule any activities for the week should get in touch with J. Spencer Carlson at the office of student, affairs or Jane Bergstrom at Kappa Alpha Theta as soon as possible.
