OSC Cindermen Visit for ND Dual By Chuck Mitchelmore Emerald Co-Sports Editor Hal Moe's Oregon State cinder men help Oregon wind up Its track schedule today when the Beavers, winless in ND compe tition this season, come to Hay ward field to meet the defending division champion Webfoots at 1:30. Oregon State can count only six returning letteriuen and has had one of its poorest track years on record In con trast to the powerful Duck squad which Bill Bowerntan will field this afternoon. Fifteen letter winners are back from the 1954 Oregon squad that swept the ND dual meet cham pionship without a defeat and edged Washington by one point to take the Northern Division meet title. In addition. Bower man has been able to count on BILL DELLINGER Lead* Duck Distance Crew fine performances from a fleet of sophomores that have been making mincemeat of dual meet records this season. Bill Dellinger. Springfield mil er who swept his way through ND. and Pacific Coast confer ence wins on the way to the NCAA mile championship last year, returns to lead a Duck dis tance crew that has few equals in the nation. The flying junior has doubled in the two-mile with the absence of school record hold er Ken Reiser, an influenza vic tim. Both are expected to be * ——— - in top shape for their specialties today, however. Reiser, a senior with three letters amt defending; ND two miler. almost paced liiiuself to an eclipse of his old Oregon record of 9:21.0 in the Docks’ first conference meet this season against Idaho. The slim Eugene strider was .00 yards ahead of the Vandals' I .on tiourley when he snapped the tape in 9:20.4. A third member of Bowermans invincible distance dynasty is veteran Doug Clement. the speedy Canadian who has won three stripes in the quarter and half-mile runs. Clement was hampered by leg muscles injuries early in the year and has been slow to attain his old form, but should be one of the highest contenders for ND and PCC honors in the SS80-yard run. Jim Bailey, the Australian half mile champion, was a welcome addition to Oregon cinder forces this spring. The sophomore from Sydney chased world mile re cord-holder John Landy in his homeland and aced out Dellinger last Saturday in the Vancouver relays' Roger Bannister mile, turning in a 4:15.0 clocking. Bai ley has broken the 880 meet re cord in all three of Oregon's ND meets this season, but may con fine his efforts to competition in the mile with Dellinger today. In addition to Reiser and Clement, another running sen ior who will be making his final appearance in a dual meet on Howe field Is Bruce Spring- ! belt, British Empire and Bun American gumes sprinter for Canada and the man who will press Washington State’s Boh Gary most in the Nl) 220 and 100-yard dushes. Another is Bill Sorsby, thej the service veteran with three children attending school on a scholastic scholarship and speed ing over the low hurdles when j he isn't working in a gas station, and the third LeRoy Campbell, the football end who shadows j Springbett in the century and furlong dashes. | Field performers who will soon graduate include Ben Lloyd, dis- • cus and high jump: Walt Bado rek, shot put and disk; Ken, Hickenbottom, pole vault, and WELCOMES YOU To The Oregon Campus!
