With Clark JC

return bout with the Oregon
State Hooka.

day, but fell to the Fenguina
10-12 In a marathon that lasted
three and a half hours. On Sat
urday the Froah bounced back
to lash the vlsitora 11-4 and bung
out 13 more safeties.
The Frosh opened their sea
son last Thursday with a 7-6
win over the Rooks.
Plfher Slugs
Shortstop Jim Plfher led the
Ducklings on their hitting spree,
getting foui for five on Friday
and three for three the next day.
Two of his clouts were for four
bases.
The Penguins iced a 13-11 hall
game in the ninth inning Friday
by collecting three runs off four
walks, a single, and a Hteal of
home.
Don Welbon went the distance
on Saturday, allowing twelve
scattered hits, while nia mates
were ganging up on Penguin
pitching in the third and eighth
innings. The Ducklings got three
runs in the third and four in the
big eighth.
Pifher and centerfielder Dick
Jarvis homered in the Duckling
cause, and Jarvis, thirdbasemen
Bob Cellers, catcher Ron Dodge
and firatbaseman Dave Wanaka
all slammed two hits.
After their game today, the
Ducklings will scrimmage Ku

taking on the Kooks again in a

Oregon's tennis team took two
steps toward landing second place
in dual-match competition In
Northern Division play Friday
and Saturday with victories over
Idaho and Washington State.
The Ducks had little trou
ble with Idaho Friday at Mos
cow as Coach Hilbert Lee’s
team swept all seven matehe*.
Not all of the matches were
easy, however, as three singles
and one doubles clashes went to
the full three sets.
Ron Carlson beat Idaho ace
.Barry Rust, 9-7, 1-6, 7-5 and Bob
Baker followed with a 6-4, 5-7,
6-0 win over Dave Cummins
Dick Gray won his match in
straight 6-0 sets, Don Bonime
Slugfests Feature
IM Softball Play
Friday and Monday's intramu
ral softball schedule was fea
tured by high-scoring slugfests
those games that were not won
or lost by forfeit.
In Monday’s action the Legal
Eagles overwhelmed Philadel
phia house 13-0, Phi Gamma Del
ta and Lambda Chi Alpha battled
to an 8-8 four inning tie, Camp
bell club whipped Sigma Alpha
Mu 8-0, and Theta Chi dumped
Sigma Phi Epsilon 3-1.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon posted
the biggest Friday score, bounc
ing Tau Kappa Epsilon 16-0. Pi
Kappa Alpha edged Lambda Chi
Alpha 15-12, and Chi Psi out
lasted Kappa Sigma 12-10. In
p lower-scoring contest. Phi Kap
pa Sigma squeezed past Camp
bell club 2-1.
Intramural track opened Mon
day with Sigma Nu and Hale
Kane posting lopsided victories.
Sigma Nu completely swamped

Saturday Oregon dropped one

but won the others for a 5-2
victory. Only two matches were
finished In two sets as Gray
won 6-1, 6-4 and Bonime tri
umphed 6-4, 7-5.
Carlson won his singles match
5- 7, 7-5, 6-3 while Baker scored a
6- 4, 1-6, 6-0 victory. They com
bined to win their doubles match
4-6, 8-6, 6-3. Hamilton was the
only singles loser while Gray and
Bonime dropped their doubles I
match.

A surprising Idaho golf team
played a good game on its home
I course Friday to hand Oregon’s
previously-unbeaten team a 14'i
-12*2 loss to give the Ducks a
split in their Inland Empire in
vasion.
The loss to Idaho preceded a
Saturday win from Washington
State in which the W'ebfoot
divoters took revenge by a

tied with the Vandals for first

with only the Oregon State

The match Friday was held on
Idaho’s short nine-hole course
and the rolling terrain and tricky
greens were a big factor in the

in best-ball play as Bob Camp
bell and Dave Powell shot a 67
to take three points from Barry
Ott and Bob Norquist and pace
Idaho to an 8-6 lead in the morn
ing.^
In the afternoon round Van
dal Bob Adamson, recent win
ner of the Japanese Empire
