By Buzz Nelson Emerald Auirtnl Sports Editor Oregon tripped the University of Washington in two crucial Northern Division baseball con tests Friday and Saturday and vaulted into the ND lead with a perfect 3-0 record. The wins were the Ducks' eighth aud ninth straight. Coach Don Kirsch's club won by 13-12 and 8-5 margins and used big innings in each game. Both the Huskies and the Ducks had on their hitting clothes and the pitchers wilted before the onslaught of base hits. The Webfoots hit the road this weekend for six games in eight days. They face Washington State at Pullman Friday and Saturday, Idaho at Moscow Mon day and Tuesday, and Washing ton at Seattle Friday and Satur day after that. Play the Emeralds The home schedule takes up again May 17 when they are scheduled against the Eugene Emeralds at Emerald park. Ore gon State will be here for a doubleheader on May 20. and the Ducks will journey north to Corvallis for another twinbill on May 21. That winds up the Northern Division season. In the Friday game Washing ton jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but Oregon peeked Ducklings Open Against Eugene With half the schedule already washed out. Oregon's Frosh baseball squad will make still another effort to open the sea son against Eugene high school today at 3:30 on the EHS dia mond. A scheduled game with the Oregon State Rooks Saturday was cancelled. Eugene's Axemen are young but boast one of the top prep squads in the state. Although weather conditions have prevent ed the Axemen from opening their district 5-A-l season, pre league action has proved them tough to beat. The Frosh have plenty of ac tion billed for this week, with McChord Air Force base slated for a doubleheader Wednesday and Clark college scheduled for single games Friday and Sat urday. Wilson, Williams Place In Billiards Tourney Oregon placed two men hSgh up in the finals of the National Intercollegiate Billiard cham pionships. held at Michigan State college Saturday. ON THE CAMPUS Varsity, Frosh Nab Tennis Wins A sweep In the doubles brought Oregon's varsity tennis team from behind to take a close 4-3 decision from Oregon State Sat urday, as the Ducks won their first Northern Division match. And the freshman team com pleted an all-winning weekend by dropping the OSC Rooks and Springfield high. Bob Baker and Ron Carlson teamed to defeat OSC's sopho more pair of Norm Merrill and Bob Jensen in the final doubles match to give the Ducks their victory. The final set scores were 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Don Bonime and Dick Gray had previously beaten Dick Jacobson and Pete Overton 6-3, 6-3 to tie the match. Frosh Triumph Coach Hilbert Lee's Frosh team saw action both Friday and Saturday, bouncing the prep pers by a 6-1 count and defeat ing the Rooks by the same score. Frosh Trackmen Take 3-Way Meet With the aid of four spring football players. Coach Bob Mc Collum’s Duckling cinder team swamped the Oregon State Rooks and the Portland Track and Field team to the tune of 74, 49, 38. Saturday at Hay ward field. The mainstay in Ore gon's behalf was workhorse Jack Morris, who won the century dash in 10.1, captured the 220-yd. low hurdles in 25.4. and anchored the winning mile relay team. The most outstanding effort of the day was OSC's Wayne Moss's high jump of 6’ 4”. He completed his share of blue rib bon finishes when he won the shot put at 43’ Ex-Oregon distance expert Pete Mundle was up to snuff in the mile and two mile. He toured the four lap race in 4:29.1, and the two mile in 10:12. Don Meskimen of Ore gon finished second in both events. Stewart Jones suffered the only singles loss to the Millers and Stan Kalapus dropper the only match to the Kooks. Carlson opened the Beaver match with a 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 win over Merrill, but Overton coun tered by overcoming Baker, 3-6, . 6-1, 7-5.
