Huskies Triumph In Idaho Pair To Start Action MOSCOW, Idaho IAPi — The rain-delayed Northern Division baseball season finally opened here Tuesday with Washington sweeping both ends of a double header from Idaho, winning the opener 12-6 and the 6-inning nightcap 4-3. The second game was ab breviated by darkness. The Huskies, showing plenty of power at the plate, slammed out 18 hits in scoring their 12 runs in the first game. Jack Scott and Jack Brady led the hitters, with Lou Roselli ham mering a 2-run homer in the sixth. Washington pitcher Monte Geiger gave up 11 hits to the Vandals, but was never in serious trouble, Light Idaho errors enabled Washington to keep a safe lead. In the second game. Vandal pitcher Aubrey Stevens gave up four runs in the second and then shut out the Huskies until the game was called. Bill Hearn al lowed Idaho only five hits. HEAD EMERALD WANT ADS Duck Nine to Try Loop Play Today Oregon and Washington State college will attempt to open the Northern Division baseball sea son this afternoon at 3 p.m. on Howe field. In case of rain or wet grounds a doubleheader is scheduled for Thursday, and in event the games are not played Thursday they will be cancelled and not made up. Both Oregon and WSC were rained out last weekend. The . Oregon-OSC games were post poned till late in May, but the WSOWashlngton games were cancelled outright. The Cougars and the Ducks have near identical records. Ore gon sports a 7-3 mark while Coach Buck Bailey’s WSC team stands at 6-3. The Ducks are defending Northern Division champs and the Cougars finished in fourth place in 1954. Oregon Coach Don Kirsch will probably pitch either Bill Blod gett. Bill Garner or Terry Mad dox. Bailey will counter with Ron Webb, Jerry Bartow or Wes Stock, all juniors. Webb is the top Cougar pitcher with 2-0. As opposed to Oregon’s vet eran lineup, WSC has a young, relatively inexperienced team. Only four seniors are listed on the entire 25-man squad, but three of them are regulars. Top Cougar hitter so far has been Shortstop Ron Foisy. Foisy is hitting .500 on 15 for 30 and has batted in 10 runs to lead the club in that respect. Other bat leaders are Centerfielder Terry Sparks .437, Rightfielder Ron Overby .375, Thirdbaseman Bill Mashburn .333, and Secondbase man Gordon Hersey .300. Filling out the WSC lineup are Earl McIntosh lb, Terry Campbell if, and either Rod Golden or Bill Rich c.
