By Bob Ross
Emerald Reporter
Lovers of the frontier will find
ample entertainment in Eugene
theaters this weekend.
“Man Without a Star" is cur
rently at the Heilig with Kirk
Douglas playing the part of an
unfortaunate man, who wanders
all over the West because he
hates barbed wire.
However, he stops off for a
while on a ranch owned by Jean
ne Crain, who is busily import
ing thousands of steers, as well
as a bad man (Richard Boone)
who giggles when he shoots.

More Westerns On
James Cagney, who has not
made a western for many years,
is back as an ex-convict who has
become sheriff of a cow town in
“Run for Cover," opening Sun
day at the McDonald. Cagney is
interested in a homeless boy
(John Derek), who reminds him
of his son, Derek, in turn, is
interested in a girl (Viveca Lind
fors), who does not remind him
of anyone.
The show has action as well as
fatherly interest and romance as
the town bank is robbed by hood
lums who are chased by Cagney,
Derek, and others. The second
feature is “Hobson's Choice.”
The Eugene Drive-In is show
ing a version of the modern West
in "Bad Day at Black Rock” Fri
day and Saturday. Spencer Tra
cy, in this interesting film, de
cides to spend a day in Black
Rock which turns out to be quite
a day. Two more westerns, "Two
Guns and a Badge" at the Rex
and "They Rode West" at the
Motor-Vu Drive-In, are also be
ing offered this weekend.
There are also somC films
playing in the Eugene area about
people who live in cities rather
than on cattle ranches and wear
suits instead of levis.
