last Friday, then took an 81-64
shellacking from Dahl-Penne"s
tall and talented crew on Sat
urday. The Frosh went against
the AAU squads as preliminar
ies to the Oregon-ldaho varsity
games.
Guard Bob Ayre had his big
gest night of the season as he
collected 16 points to lead the
Frosh to their Friday win. Big
Ken Servas and Jerry Hefty hit
for 28 and 20, respectively, to
spark Dahl-Penne Saturday.

If the game had lasted thirty
seconds longer, the score would
probably have gone the other
way. Ahead by eleven points at
the four minute mark, the
Ducklings saw their lead dwindle
rapidly as Jack Griener and Dick
Wickstrand poured in almost
enough buckets to tie the score.
The Frosh managed to stay
barely ahead through most of
the first half, but at 6:40 Air
Base Forward Tom Ferguson
tied it up at 24-24 with two free
tosses. Then Roger Diddock and
Burt Williams started hitting to
pull the Ducklings out to a 37-30
halftime margin.
Midway through the second
stanza, the Air Basers caught
up and passed the Frosh. They
were ahead 48-47 when Lowell j
Slick put in a field goal to put j
the Ducklings in front for good.
Trailing Ayre in scoring for
the Frosh were Paul Tuchardt
with 13 and Hal Duffy with 10.
Griener and Wickstrand both hit
eight field goals and eleven char
ity throws for 27 points for the
losers.

Touch and go all the way
through the first half, the game
developed into a rout following
a 37-37 halftime tie.
Wendy Rasor and Wimp Hast
ings, on the reserve bench at the
ball game’s start, sparked the
Ducklings in the first half with
jump shots and long howitzers
that seldom missed. But Servas
was unstoppable for Dahl-Penne,
and the ex-Lewis and Clark All
Northwest conference choice got
16 in the first chapter.
A 39-39 tie was the closest the
Ducklings got to a second-half
lead. After that, the iron-man
Portland five got red-hot, seem
ing to score almost at will.
High point of the second half
for Oregon rooters was Hastings’

Martin Swan scored the last
