Honors Program Offers Training Oregon's sophomore honors program has ceased to be an experimental program as it enters its third year this term, according to Kenneth S. Ghent, aoting chairman of the- sopho more honors committee. The sophomore honors program is-designed to offer basic train ing in liberal arts for more ad vanced students The basic pro gram fills the part of the stu dent's schedule usually given to satisfying the lower division group requirements. The group includes three-term sequences in literature, history, the study of society and a choice of biological science or physical science. Approximately 300 students have been enrolled in the sopho more honors program to date. Fourteen completed the course Tickets on Sale For UO Staff The University Athletic depart ment has announced that special season athletic tickets are avail able this year to all university staff members. The tickets, now being sold at the athletic ticket office, will entitle holders to ad mittance to all varsity athletic events during 1954-55 including football, basketball, baseball and track. 1 A married faculty member may purchase one ticket for each member of his family for whom he claims tax exemption. Single faculty members and civil-service employees may purchase two tickets. , Price of the season tickets is $15 each. Board Meeting Rescheduled The Student Union Board meet ing originally scheduled for Wed nesday was postponed when Chairman Boh Pollock was called out of town. Assistant Chairman Andy Ber wick said that the board will try to meet next week. If rush ing schedules make further post ponement necessary, the board ■will meet Oct. 6. ■ The 1954-55 budget will be discussed at file meeting and the filling of four vacancies, ac cording to Berwick. Open positions include two year terms from the college of liberal arts and the school of business and-one-year terms.from the school of law and the gradu ate school. Library Now Taking Faculty Assignments : Applications for the assign ment of faculty studies in the Uiiiversity Library are now being received at the library office. The office will accept applications until October 1. Faculty members who are en gaged in research which re quires the use of library ma terials will be given, priority. Before sophomore honors are granted, the student must pass comprehensive examinations in each of four fields of study. The sophomore honors pro gram is open to the top 20 per cent of each entering class, as measured by high school records and scholastic aptitude ratings. Eligibility is calculated by the director of admissions and is indicated on a test result card issued to each freshman before his final conference with his adviser.
