National Association of Evangelicals Northwest Regional Office: 423 Park Bldg., 729 S. \Y\ Alder Portland 5. Oregon Rev. George L. Ford Regional Director Phone ATwater 1211 October 27, 1953 Mr. Herbert Jauchen, Manager Williams Department Store Eugene, Oregon Dear Herb: Last August I had the privilege of observing the conditions of the suffering people of Korea. The situation was much worse than I had imagined that it could be. I saw families of six to twelve living in shacks not more than eight to ten feet square. I saw hundreds of people living on the streets. I saw many of the thousands of boys and girls that are absolutely homeless. I returned to America with the conviction that we must do more than ever before to meet the needs of this suffering people. It is very heartening to know that many of the churches of the Eugene area are participating and that the Eugene Youth for Christ is conducting a concerted drive. But the need is greater than all of us can meet so that we want to do every thing possible to encourage people to participate in this great work. Anything that you can do to publicize this work will mean life to the people af Korea that face the severe Korean winter just ahead. I want to assure you that we can guarantee the delivery of the clothing to the needy people. Clothing received within the next few weeks, will reach those in need by Christmas. The response of people in America now will mean the difference between life and death to people ia Korea this winter. Sincerely yours, Geo. L.
