h UCLA Here For Opener ' (Continued from (age one ) their first two outings the Ducks have displayed a surprisingly strong ground game which has netted them a 239 yard per game average, best in the Pacific Coast Conference. Although Oregon has not shown much of a passing offense thus far no one is losing much sleep over that. George Shaw is in his 1 third varsity season with the Ducks and in his first two seasons he demonstrated a sterling pass , ing arm which was a worry to opponents at all times. Even though he has not thrown many yet this year General George will open the gates to the aerial game when the need arises. In both the Nebraska and Stanford tussles the rushing plays were working so well that there was little need for much passing. Because of this show of offen sive strength on the part of the Webfoots speculation as to the final result of this game has changed greatly. Now, Oregon is given a good chance of making a tight ball game of it. Most of the forecasters are quoting UCLA as a two to three touchdown fav orite but most of them are quick to admit that it could be much closer than that. For UCLA this game with Ore gon could go a long way in tell ing just how strong the Bruins are. Rated by many experts as the number one team in the country the Uclans thus far have not lived up to their terrific pre-season publicity. i i Last week they were hard press ed to nip the Kansas Jayhawks, 19-7. A decisive win over the Ducks would take away all doubts as to the strength of Red Sanders’ eleven. On the other hand if Oregon should upset the Bruins the Uclans would be knocked completely off of their throne in the clouds of the football kingdom. Oregon will enter the game in fairly good physical condition. Backs Cecil Hodges and Ted An derson will probably be slowed up a little by injuries but botn arc due to see some action. When the two teams line-tip for the 1:30 p.m. kickoff Satur day afternoon the starting teams will probably look like this: OREGON Rce-l . I..E. Tucker . L.T. Sweit/cr .. I..G. Phei&ter . (’. Patera .
