AWS Cabinet Announces Three-point Program For 1952-53
The cabinet of the Associated
Women Students has announced a

in AWS activities, (2) concentrate
on less activities for activities sake
] alone and (3) get more money to
carry out AWS activities.

* DROWN YOUR CAMPFIRE! Be sure it’s com
pletely out, because one forest fire started by your
campfire may easily destroy enough saw timber
to build a thousand homes! Last year, fires actu
ally burned enough U. S. timber to build 86,000 five-room houses.
BREAK YOUR MATCH! In 1950 forest fires
started by people turned to useless ashes enough
pulpwood to provide a year’s supply of paper to
every newspaper in the United Statesthey
covered an area larger than the state ot Pennsylvania.
f CRUSH YOUR CIGARETTE! When the forest
burns, you lose and everyone loses. Not only is
invaluable timber destroyed, but camping and
recreation areas are gone. And after the fire come
drought, floods, loss of hydroelectric power, loss of jobs.
BURN BRUSH CAREFULLY! Check with your local ranger, fire or
forest warden before burning brush or rubbish. Careless burning
started one fire that ravaged 50,000 acres, killed four men. Suppose
your carelessness caused such tragedy.
lET'S STOP THIS SHAMEFUL WASTE! Such wanton destruction of
our natural resources, such shameful weakening of our national
security CAN BE PREVENTED! Most fires are started by people
like you... people who mean well but are careless just once. Will
you be the next one who starts a fire? This will be an extremely crit
ical year. Give us your promise that you will be careful!
