AkbucJzl&i Ducks Top Idaho, 13-6 By Ernie Baldini Oregon's hit - happy Ducks bounced back to gain a tie for the Northern Division league lead with a convincing 13-6 victoiy over Idaho’s Vandals yesterday after noon at Howe field before 1100 partisan fans. The sultry after noon brought a total of 10 runs and 25 hits in the scoring melee. Oregon was forced to come from behind a four-run deficit in the first inning and came through with flying colors with 11 runs on eight hits. This initial frame saw a total of five pitchers toe the slab, two for Oregon and three for Idaho. Kill Mays, hefty right-hander, started the tilt for Oregon and was replaced, with two men out and four runs tallied, hy Norm Forbes, lanky freshman from Victoria, B. C. Forbes, hurling from the right side, displayed an excellent curve, drop and varied his speed to turn in a fine pitching chore. He was just wild enough to be effective, walking four, striking out six, and allowing six hits and two runs in the seven and one-third innings he ■ ~._ _l ... The Il-run splurge in the first inning by the Ducks was manu factured on singles by Shaw and Llvesay and walks to Nelson and Sugura, ticketing the starting Ida ho pitcher, Lloyd Schiller, to the showers. He was quickly followed (to the showers) by Dewey Good, who ob ligingly gave up a single to Ron Bottler, pushing two runs across the plate, a walk to Averlll, and a base to Settecasc on a pitch to the small of the back, followed by a solid single to Nick Rchnier and a similar one to Norm Forbes. Sophomore Mel Reynolds re 'placcd Good and Mel was an early victim of two well-placed bunts, one by George Shaw and one by l.lvesay, both reaching first credit ed with hits. Forbes scored on a deep drive to left by Daryle Nel son, after tagging up, and Sbau and l.lvesay both scored on Su gtira's single to left. Livesay scored the eleventh and final tun of the inning on a tag up from Bottler's deep fly to left, and Averill finally ended the blast ing with a deep fly to center, al lowing Reynolds to escape unhurt. The inning lasted 38 minutes in all, and, with the exception of only 4 runs, proved to be the big run producer. Tennis Team Meets OSC Saturday will be the big day for the varsity net men, with the Ducks making the long trip to Corvallis for their Northern Di vision opener with OSC.
