field high 23 to 5 for their third
win of the season against no losses.

afternoon on the Oregon field.

Work in the shot put, discus and
javelin was the only thing on
Goach Bill Bowerman's track
schedule Tuesday. The runners
took a rest after Monday's hard
workout.
Oregon's ailing, number one
broad jumper, Don -McClure, work
ed out and is shaping up pretty
well. He was forced out of the
Washington meet with a pulled
lpg muscle. Hurler Dick Zimmer
man is still out of action for the
Ijresent time.
John Hepner threw the javelin
well and will be second man in
this event, behind Missfeldt. Neil
Tnrdio will round out the third
spot when his eligibility is cleared.
One-two-three men in the shot
are: Chet Noe, Craig, and Ben
Lloyd. In the discus they are:
Uoyd. Walt Badorek, and Dean

collected 23 runs on 14 hits and
Springfield got five runs on seven
hits.
Bill Blodgett, a left fielder con
verted from pitcher, got two doub
les and a single in his three official
times at the plate. The fourth time
at bat he smashed out a long ball
into right center field that the
center fielder not only dropped
but allowed Blodgett to go to third
on the play.
Jim Tennyson also had a very
good day at the plate. Jim was
credited with a walk, a double, a
single and a triple. He also drove
in three runs.
Catcher Neal Marlett again was
a dangerous man at bat. Marlett
took over the catching duties after
both Oon Hedgepeth and Chuck
Greenley turned out for Spring
football. Big Neal got the first
Oregon hit in the fourth inning.
He socked a long double with the
bases loaded in the first, in the
third he hammered out a triple,
in the fifth he got on second on a
fielder’s clioiee and an error, and
: in the 7th Neal got on first by way
! of an error on the shortstop.

Three intramural softball games
| Tuesday night were decided by
; one-run margins. Sigma Chi edged
past Phi Kappa Psi, 3-2; Campbell
club downed Tau Kappa Epsilon,
5-4, and Delta Tau Delta squeezed
past Alpha Tau Omega, 7-6.
In one of the other three con
tests played. Delta I psilon capital
ized on no-hit hurling by pitcher
Frank Johnson, as they defeated
Sigma Alpha Mu, 7-1.
Phi Delta Theta coasted by Pi
Kappa Phi by a 6-1 margin on the
four-hit pitching of Hurler Clay,
while Pi Kappa Alpha hitters
pounded SAE pitching for 13 hits
as they won, 13-8.

Casanova is recovering from a
■najor back operation which forced
him to postpone his return from
an alumni tour of California for
two weeks.

and ex-Duck Center Brad Ecklund
have been handling the chores.
Harlow described the attitude as
good. “We’ve had to make quite
a few changes, but everyone wants
to play. They’ve shown a lot of
pepper for this time of the year,”

in reference to the wholesale
movement of ends to tackle and
guard positions. The Ducks have
had a surplus of flankers and an
obvious scarcity of experienced
tackles, guards and centers.

were pressed into passing roles
Tuesday afternoon; McKay and
Roche drilled the backs on short,
flat tosses. Harlow worked with
the remainder of the squad, the
linesmen, who number around the
40 mark. They stressed blocking
and tackling, mostly in dummy
drills.

Coach Don Kitsch directed his
varsity baseball squad through a
typical drill Tuesday on a damp
and slightly muddy Howe field
diamond. Hitting practice occupied
most of the afternoon, with each
batter getting in about five good
licks at the plate.
Joe Sugura was meeting the ball
well, ur, he rapped out several lino
drives that would have gone for
base hits in a game. 1'ltcher Don
Selgmund also sent several scorch
ing liners Into the outfield.
The varsity hurlers were switch
ing off at throwing to the hitters,
with freshman catcher Hon Bottler
spending most of the drill behind
the plate.
The Ducks are preparing to
meet the Washington State Cou
gars Friday and Saturday in tho
Northern Division opener to bo
playod here in Eugene.
