tion of Junior Weekend floats was
set by the float committee Thurs
day at $70. This is to be the com
; bined cost of ull groups in a pair
ing.
Co-chairman of the committee,
Jim Owens, said that floats will
be judged on originality, quality of
workmanship and adherence to the
general theme "Childhood Mem
ories."
■ Themes for floats will be due in
at the Junior Weekend office by
April 23. Organizations, however,
should turn in an alternate theme
in case of duplication.

Jane Wiggcn Captures
Northwest Presidency
Jane Wiggcn, junior in architec
ture and allied arts, was elected
president of the Northwest region
of Gamma Delta, Lutheran student
group, at the regional convention
which ended early this term.
Marian Briner, junior in history,
was elected regional secretary. The
Northwest region comprises the
states of Oregon, Washington,
Idaho and Montana.
The convention decided to hold
the 1953 convention on the Uni
versity of Oregon campus. The
local chapter will put out the re
gional paper, with Lois Schmidt,
junior in music, serving as editor.
The battleship USS Iowa is the
fourth naval ship to be so named.
Nebraska was first visited by
white men in 1541.
