Bud Covey Adds
Depth To Guards
A junior with two more years of
college eligibility remaining is the
status of Bud Covey, a stocky,
hard-driving guard on Coach Bill
Boreher's Webfoot hoop aggrega
tion.
This unusual situation Is due to
the fact that lost year’s Oregon
mentor, John Warren, decided to
withhold Bud from competition not
only to give him a little more
seasoning hut also because the
Ducks were well-stocked with vet
eran guards, namely Jack Keller,
Mel Krause, und Ken Hunt, to
name a few.
This season, his first in varsity
play, has seen the 5' 10" Covey act
mainly as reserve strength for
Borcher. generally in the late
stages of the game when good ball
handlers are needed to hand on
to a lead.
Bud. who is majoring in history.

which city he performed for Jef
ferson High school in both football
and basketball.
In the grid sport Covey filled a
backfield position for three years
for Jefferson. During that period
of time Jeff captured two city
crowns and finished second in the
state tournament in 1M8. That
was the year that Bud was named
to the second string Alt-Cify
squad.
Covey also put in three years or
basketball time for Jeff, and was
the spark of the 1SM8 team which
swept to the city title only to lose
out in the state playoffs.
As one of several promising
sophomores on Borchora roster,
Covey helps to ease any Duck
worries concerning the guard spot
in the near future.

League bowling through the
week continues its steady progress
despite the absence of cheering
multitudes. The ROTC Jets still
lead the Monday night Faculty
league with 14 wins and G losses.
Col. Hanes holds the league high
average at 163.
Tuesday Intramural shows Theta
Chi in the top spot with IS out of
16. Ned Takasumi has the high
average of 167.
Wednesday Intramural honors
Sigma Phi Epsilon at 15-5. Kill
Perkett figures a score of 169
to take first place for averages.
Phi Kappa Alpha tally reads 17
for 3 for the number one spot
in Thursday's intramural compe
tition. This same team boasts Har
old Ireland's 164 league leading
average.

The absence of rooters for the
bowling teams is in the form of a
mixed blessing. While there is no
one present to boo the losing
squad, (a favorite pastime of Ore
gon students) it follows that there
is also no one around to cheer the
winners, buy Cokes and candy at
the desk, or fill up the vacancies at
the pool and ping-pong tables
when bowling begins to pall.
