Ducks Journey to Corvallis; Nestor, Phi Delts Win Titles ♦ O Williams Paces Frosh Upset By Bill Brandsness Nestor hall trounced Delta Tau Delta in a 37-27 upset to walk away with the class A Intramural basketball championship Thursday afternoon in the men's gym. Phi Delta Theta found easy going as they shellacked Sigma Alpha. Ep silon 36-20 to win the class B In tramural crown. Pete Williams was the sensa tional Nestor halL spark plug that pulled the game over the rough spots. Pete accounted for 23 of Nestor's 37 points, but scoring wasn't the most important job Pete performed on the floor. Wil liams snatched the ball out of the Delt hands time after time and set up many of the scoring Nestor plays. Razor Sharp Heads up ball made the big difference. Nestor dominated both backboards and had control of the ball on the floor at almost all times. The lads from Vet's Dorm played a tricky defense that put as many as four men on the man with the ball at one time. If any Delt ballhandler didn't pass it almost the moment that he got the ball, a flock of Nestor players would surround him until one of them grabbed it. Ex-JV Dick Kof ford and Jim Tennyson domina ted the boards for Ne9tor. Darrell Hawes was again the driving punch for the Delts, but his best wasn’t quite good enough. Late In the game the Delts pulled to within six points of Nestor when Hawes fouled out. This marked the end of the Delt drive. The games got off to a very slow start. At half time Nestor held a 12-10 lead. Hawes led the Delt scoring with ten counters. In the Phi Delta Theta-Sigma Alpha Epsilon contest the Phi Delts put their claim on the B trophy and get to claim it for good because of B wins in previous seasons. No Contest The game was a one sided af fair all of the way. At the end of the first quarter the Phi Delts held a 11-7 lead and were never threatened after that point. The other quarters scores were: Half time 17-11, and third quarter 28 15. The big bulge in Phi Delt scor ing came when Ray Karnofski from SAE fouled out in the third quarter. Karnofski has held the team together for most of the .season and with Ray out the SAE couldn't seem to muster any kind of threat. , fPlease turn to page five) JIM PADGETT, pictured above, Oregon .State college forward and guard, wijl be playing his find game of his bud aerie* against the I'nlverslty of Oregon Ducks tonight In GIU coliseum. PRIDE OF OREGON close to Compos... on Broadway at Alder Oregon, OSC Open Rivalry By Rick Tarr | The first came of a home* anil-home series w ill take place tonight in Corvallis as the struggling Heavers ln»t the (begun varsity in the fir-t en counter of the season between the arch rivals. The miserable 2-10 win-loss rec ord of the Aggies in no cause for optimism in the Duck camp. The Gtllmen are always tough to boat on their home floor and rate as three point favorites. Bradley uni versity found this out last week when they dropped two straight i to the Unpredictable Beavers. Oregon's starting lineup will be Hon Bottler and Bob Peterson forwards, Chet Noe at center, with Bob llawes and Ken Hunt at guards. Hon Bottler will have the dubious honor of guarding the hotshot of the OSC club, Danny Johnston. Slats Gill’s offense has been formed around ' Dangerous Dan" throughout the season.
