The purpose of NAACP is to re lieve the tensions that come up be tween races and groups, he noted. Before deciding whether to re organize, the group discussed the possibilities of cooperating with the inter-racial group in Eugene which held its initial meeting Tues day. It was pointed out that It had not yet been established and it was suggested that before attempting to work with another group, the campus organization should first prove itself effective. Along this line. Mrs. R. D. Clark, wife of the assistant dean of the college of liberal arts, stated that the students had a "tremendous job” of education to do here on the campus. Mrs. Clark, who is also interested in the formation of a group downtown, said that much could be done with panels, debates and visual aids by the students. J. V. Berreman of the sociology department said the main benefits that could be attained through NAACP would be cooperation be tween the races. Moderator Char les Aull pointed out that a campus chapter of NAACP could prepare people for the discriminations thut would be met across the country. Aull, elected to temporary chair man of the group, stressed that not only Negroes, but all non-whites were especially invited to attend these meetings along with other interested students. Bob Ridderbusch was named temporary secretary of the orga nization. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.n^. in the Student Union. IRL Delegates <( imlWHi'd from fin.
