Monday night the high-scoring jayvees will take on Linfield in a game which promises a lot of action and Tuesday night they will meet the JV's from Pa cific. Both games will serve as preliminaries to the Oregon-V\ ash ington State series and will get under way at 6 p.m. Thus far the Ducklings have en joyed a better than average sea son: winning all but one ot their six games. Partly responsible for this has been Larry Chamberlain, a courtwise all-stater from Salem, who currently holds top rung in team scoring with 58 points. Not far behind is sophomore j Ron Phillips with 48. Don Sieg- | muiul ranks third with 8*1 counters. Top average goes to Ron Bottler, who has racked up thirty points in two games for a 15 per game average. The squad, idle since December 22, will be somewhat reduced for the Monday night game against Linfield, with only the freshmen seeing action. Mermen To Meef Aero Club Team Swimming Coach John Bor chardt is preparing his Oregon pool team for their first meet of the season against the Aero Club at the Men's Pool on Saturday. The Duck swimmers, who finished second to Washington in the Con ference last year, have a good chance to duplicate that perform ance in the current season’s com petition. Four Lettennen The nucleus of the squad is com posed of four returning lettermen from last year's team. They arc Dick Ruchdeschel, a senior and the only returning two year letter winner; Mike Pupovitch, senior; Gordon Edwards, junior; and Jim Allan, junior. Non-let termen returning from last year’s team follow; John English, Bob Oringdolph, Cedric Baldwin, Allan Waliinekona, Harry Atkinson, and Henry Kalura. New men out for the first time this year are: Dave Iloucli, Yoshi nobu Terada, Phil Lewis, Harry Fuller, Milton Kotoshirodo, Herb West, and Pete Charlton. Two of the above have been named by Borchardt as potential stars. Rosser Scores 15 Another Cougar to watch is George Rosser, six-foot, two-inch center from Bellingham, and co captain along with Roberts. Rather short for a center, Rosser uses his 205 pounds to advantage under the backboards. Saturday night he scored 15 points and was instru mental in the Cougar victory. Also in the starting lineup for the Cougars, who use two platoons extensively, will be Phil Brown and Bob Swanson at the guards. Brown, a six-foot, three-inch sophomore, i sparkled Saturday. He scored 11 points and was potent on the de fensive boards in the final-quar ter Cougar surge to victory. Swanson, another six-foot, three ineh sophomore, is a defensive specialist. At the other forward spot will be Peter Mullins, Austra lia’s six-foot, four-inch contribu tion to UA basketball. Mullins is a fine floor man and a deadly shot. He was captain of the all-Austra lia hoop team in 1919, and also placed sixth In the decathlon event for Australia in the 1948 Olympics. The Cougars have a fine record in non-conference competition, hav ing 10 non-conference wins and only four defeats, with nine vic tories in their last 10 games. WSC Reads All-Time Series Last season WSC finished third in the ND, with seven wins and nine losses. In four games with Oregon, the Ducks won three; sweeping the Eugene pair 66-57 and 57-55. At Pullman the Cougars took the first contest, 60-63, but lost 54-52 to Oregon in the second., The all-time won and lost rec ord bet ween Oregon and WSC stands at 53 wins for the Cougars to 49 for the Ducks. For Coach Bill Borcher’s Oregon Ducks, starting at forward will be six-foot, five-inch Bob Peterson, All-Northern Division last season, and possesor of a sparkling 15.2 points per game average for 182 points in the 12 non-conference. Also one of the top rebounders in the nation, Peterson will be marked man against WSC. Streeter improving; At the other forward for the Ducks will be Mel Streeter, six foot, four-inch senior from Los Angeles. Streeter is also potent on the backboards, and is giving indi cations of developing into a scor ing threat, with 72 points in pre season play.
