Speech Students
All students interested in extra
curricular speech activities are in
vited by Anthony Hillbruner, di
rector of forensics, to attend a
meeting at 7:30 tonight in 205 Vil
lard. Hillbruner, W, A. Dahlberg,
heud of the speech department, and
Ben Padrow, assistant in speech,

tivities in discussion, debate, ex
temporaneous speaking, oratory,
and oral interpretation.
Members of the forensics squad
will travel the state and region at
University expense. Last year ap
proximately sixty trips were made,
some to points as distant as Chi
cago.
Community Chest Reps
House representatives for the
community chest drive should meet
at the Student Union at 4 p.m. to
day, Mike Lally, drive chairman,
announced.
Final instructions will be given
at that time for the drive, which
begins on campus Wednesday and
runs through Oct. 10.
Members of Kwama, sophomore
women's honorary, will visit living
organizations Wednesday and
Thursday to make speeches on be

JIFC
The Junior Inter - Fraternity
Council will hold its first meeting
of the current year Tuesday at
7:30 p.m. at Theta Chi, president
Bob Jones has announced. Election
of officers will take place at this
time.
The council is composed of presi
dents and representatives of fra
ternity pledge classe and serves as
a training round for the Inter-Fra
ternity Council. Each year the
JIFC sponsors service projects de
signed to benefit the University.
The council, made up mostly of
sophomores this first term, also
attempts to foster better under
standing between the fraternities.

Men living In dormitories or off
campus with 36 academic hours or
more, or who were eligible for
rushing last spring term and who
were in attendance as regular stu
dents that term, may be rushed
and pledged throughout fall term,
McLaughlin said.
A United States patent gives the
grantee the exclusive right to his
product for only 17 years.

Seminars Slated
For Each Friday
The first in a scries of weekly
biology seminars was conducted
Friday. All those attending toured I
the new science budding.
Each Friday at 4 p.m. in 105
Deady a seminar open to the gen
eral public will be held. For the
first few weeks the general sub
ject will be scientific instrumenta
tion.
During these sessions the uses
and functions of various pieces of
I scientific apparatus will be discus
sed and demonstrated. Later on in
the year individuals will present
material on the research they are
conducting.
