Horowitz Given
Biochemistry
Award for Study
Myer G. Horowitz, graduate as
sistant in chemistry, has been
awarded a post-doctoral fellowship
in biochemistry for the coming year
by the National Foundation for In
fantile Paralysis.
Horowitz, who will receive a doc
tor's degree in biochemistry in Sep
tember, will use the fellowship to
continue training at the University.
According to F. J. Reithel. asso
ciate professor of chemistry under 1
whom Horowitz is studying, the
money given by the foundation is j
used for the future training of pro-1
mising young PhD's in order that!
they may get advance training in j
problems relating to medicine. This
fellowship is the first one awarded j
by the Infantile Paralysis Founda- j
tion to a student choosing to con- j
tinue his work at the University of i
Oregon. Reithel believes Horowitz i
is the third student to study under i
him to receive a fellowship.

Maude Garnett, associate pro
fessor of public school music, has
been granted a year's leave to
teach at North Texas State Col- i
lege. Denton. Texas.
Miss Garnett will be in charge
of the classroom teacher training
program there.

the 1951-52 academic year.
Several students were awarded
two scholarships.
