hvery year a week-end is set^-ide for our high school friends
to visit our cam pus. Since a school is only as strong as its student
hotly, the I diversity family tries to encourage outstanding stu
dents to visit the campus. Being proud of our University, we feel
that once prospective students have a chance to observe the tvpe
of curriculum, extracurricular activities, and campus surround
ings, they will be sold on the University as we have been.

'| he Duck Preview committee, in cooperation with the various
living organizations has worked hard to provide what it feels
will be an educational as well as entertaining weekend. Friday
evening our freshman class has provided an assembly. Saturday
night for your entertainment there will be a vodvil show put on
by the student body, with dance to follow.
In visiting the campus you will see such landmarks as Deady
Hall, the fir.-,t building. And you will be able to compare this with
our new Student Union and library addition, as well as the con
struction of the new science building.

One Odd Situation!
Ugliest Man Candidate
Plays Romantic Lead

“Isn't it stretching it just a little
I bit to have the romantic lead of
'Finian's Rainbow' a finalist for
, Ugliest Man on the campus?” asks
Gordon Howard, romantic lead and
I Ugliest Man finalist.
; “I have no illusions about being
a second Rudolph Valintino; it’s
the singing that interested me, but
I my gosh. .he mutters.
It all started (the singing that
is) when Gordy came back from
the Navy after a two-year hitch, j
to finish his senior year in high
school. Being ineligible for athle
tics. he had to look around for a
new interest and took to music.
He found out that his baritone
voice wasn't half bad and has been
working with it ever since. Now |
a senior in speech, he still has time
to work with the University Sing- j
ers and sing at occasional wed- j
dings.
Besides his music work, Gordy
is interested in other fields. At \
present he is a member of the
Theater Executive Board and a
principal in the cast of "Milky
Way,” the University Theater road
show. He has also been president i
of Cherney Hall and Junior Repre-!
sentative on the ASUO Executive
Council.
Until this year he had pretty
much decided upon going into radio
or teaching. That was changed a
little though when he got his first
stage role, Ed Devery, in “Bom
Yesterday.” Now with the part of

but a lot of fun, he says, he thinks
he might want to go a little
further in stage work. But with
still two-thirds of his senior year
to go after summer vacation, he
still has some time to think about
it.
Howard's 187 pounds are distri
buted over a 5' 8" frame which he
considers just right. He ardently
denies that the appellation "Gordo"
has any foundation at all, and few
are his friends who persist in using
it.
