Delt. Shirley Day, who is attending Lewis and Clark this year, came down to the chapter house recently to announce her engagement to j Dick Walker, ATO at Oregon, who ^ is now at Lewis and Clark. Tuesday night when some of the j girls were just getting back from spring vacation. Betty Bagley sur prised everyone by announcing her engagement to Arnie Slcnning, Chi Psi. During spring vacation many of the Tri Deltas were in Portland to attend the annual spring formal given by the Portland Alliance. Music was provided by Dave Long ton's orchestra in the Assembly Room of the Multnomah Hotel. The latest pinning occurred Sun day night w-hen Mary Penwardcn accepted the Kappa Sig pin of Jini Cecil. Marilyn Thompson, AWS vice president, returned Tuesday from a week's meeting of the National Associated Women Students at Purdue University in Indiana. This weekend, the Oregon chap ter will play hostess to the Tri Deltas from Oregon State in their annual State Meeting. At Gamma Phi Beta... Barbara Shultz was married on Mar. 24 to John Richmond, SAE. Sue Teter recently announced her engagement to Dick Yunkers, from Vancouver, Washington, who is at tending school at the University of Washington now. Bobbie Alt meyer announced her engagement last night to Tom Joyce. Delt. The wedding is planned for the very near future. Sue Judd was on a concert tour last week with the University sing ers. Congratulations are in order for Pat Saunders and Sue Judd for attaining membership in Phi Beta. At Kappa Alpha Theta.. Romance and spring term seem to go hand in hand, and the events | of the term started off with the wedding of Mollie McWhUts and Chi I ’mi Don Young. The couple was married in Portland, Mar. 26. Sunday may have been April Pool's Day, but there was no fool ing with the announcements of two engagements that day. Marilyn Hunt, down for the week-end, an nounced the date of her marriage to Russ Waddle, Fiji, as July 1. Distance made the heart grow fond er for Betty Drummond and Dart mouth Theta Chi, Alan Riegclman. The Faster bunny brought glad tidings to all, ami he added the SAF pin of Shan Trebbe for Mere dith Burch's basket. Mary X. Plummer, District Pre sident of Theta, is now making her annual visit to the chapter. At Kappa Kappa Gamma Spring term engagements start ed off with a bang when Joanne Filtzmauricc and Pete Gerber of Multnomah Athletic Club planned an August wedding. The double en gagement of Betty Hillman to Phi Dolt Rod Slade and Marilyn Hill man to Lyle Janz. also a Phi Delt, brought much excitement as did a third Kappa-I’hi Delt engagement, Sue Bachelder and Bill Moore. Also engaged are Georgie Balaam and the fabulous Beta "Sugar Mouth" Harry. Other Kappa events have includ ed the spring vacation wedding of Jiggs Houston to Gene Zaronos anti the pinning of Mary Fowler to Beta freshman John Ackers. Cathy Vilas is the newly elected president of Amphibians and freshman Judy Woodcock is secretary. Junior Mary i Dun son is new president of the Kappa Hearthstone Foundation. Sally Stone will serve as social chairman. At Philadelphia House.. Philadelphia House, Monday, elected the following officers for the coming year: President. Stan Boyer: vice-president, Phil John son: chaplain. Janies Kehoe: busi ness manager, Los Howatt: house manager, Max Crossan; secretary, Elmo Schiewe; historian, Alvin Rollier; and sergeant-at-arms, Har old Long. The United States Student Pro gram of the Institute will receive applications up to May 10. The fellowships are open to both men and women for study during the academic year Nov. 1, 1951-! July 31, 19,02. Transportation and incidental ex P-oses must be paid for by the* student under the grant. The ap plicant may indicate the institu tion where he wishes to study. To be eligible, applicants should present proof of American citizen-1 ship, academic ability and capacity for independent study, a Bachelor’s degree by Nov. 1, 1951, a good knowledge of German, good health. , good moral character, personality, * and adaptability.
