Piggers' Misprint
Causes Confusion
Alpha Tan Omega and The
Texas Co. have a mutual com
plaint against the Piggers’ Guide
—the one for too few phone calls,
the other, for too many.
Due to a misprint in the fra
ternity’s phone number, which
should be 4-2245, the Texas Co.
at 4-4245 has been receiving
many misdirected calls, Piggers’
Guide Editor Virginia Wright
pointed out. She suggested that
students change the number in
their Piggers’ Guides to stop the
confusion.
Coffee Prices Rise
In Student Union
It’s the same coffee, but it costs
three cents more.
The price of a cup of black
coffee in the Student Union has
been raised from seven cents to ten
cents, Miss Ruth Coffey, SU foods
director, announced Wednesday.
Second cups will be a nickel.
Coffee with cream is still a
penny extra; the price has gone
from eight cents to eleven cents.
Tryouts for First 'Arena' Play
Scheduled for Friday in Villard
General tryouts for “Goodbye
My Fancy,” to be directed by Ot
tilie Seybolt in the new "arena
style” theater, will be held at 4
and 7 p.m. Friday in 104 Villard.
The comedy, a recent Broad
way hit with Madeleine Carroll,
will be presented with a University
cast March 2 through 10 in the
remodeled intimate theater in Vil
lard Hall.
It is the first production plan
ned for the small theater—which
was remodeled during the Christ
mas vacation to fit the needs of
the University Theater. Work is
still in progress on the facilities.
An intimate, or “arena-style” or
“in-the-round” production is one
in which the audience sits on all
sides of the acting area. The cen
tral staging allows a more inti
mate relation between the actors
and the audience. Settings for are
na productions are necessarily dif
ferent from the usual “picture
frame” setting commonly used in
the theater; with major emphasis
on lighting and props for effect.
Use of the intimate theater in
February will mark the full-time
operation of each of the three
theaters of the University Theater.
The laboratory theater and the
main theater have been in opera
tion since the formal opening in
the fall of 1949; but the intimate
If
theater has not yet been used by
a University Theater group.
It was used during last year’s
drama conference, but facilities
were not adequate. The remodeling
during Christmas vacation has
made the theater adequate for the
production of major University
Theater plays.
Radio Equipment
On Way to UO
FM equipment, ordered from
Quincy, 111., lias not arrived for
the new University radio station,
KWAX. “Broadcasting will not be
under way until two weeks after
the equipment is received, but we
have no idea when to expect it,”
D. Glenn Starlin, assistant profes
sor of speech, said.
KWAX was previously schedul
ed to start broadcasting winter
term, after being approved by the
Federal Communications Commis
sion in December.
Positions are still available on
the permanent staff, according to
Don Frost, business manager. Pro
gramming is not yet complete, but
will cover a six-day week, eight
hour day schedule.
