French War Bride's Role Happy One as Housewife, Worker Here By Larry Kott When petite Andree Perry dis carded her white uniform and hair net and shook out her dark locks to appear in a golden blouse and tailored grey skirt behind the in formation desk in the lobby of the Student Union last Monday morn ing, she had been promoted. . Not of great importance was this French war bride’s gradua tion from waitress to saleswoman —it was just another step in the direction of a successful adjust ment to her adopted America. Four years ago the attractive French girl left her native Paris to join her American fiance, Ray mond Lee Perry, captain in the HEILIG ONE FULL WEEK STARTING THURSDAY . Ray is a senior in political science with a 3.82 GPA. Andree, in addition to her duties at home, works a 48-hour week at the Student Union. The 26-year-old French girl be lieves her marriagfe has worked out far better than those of six other foreign brides she has known. Some have been bitterly disillusioned and have had great difficulty with the language. “I am the only one I know of to take citizenship,” she said. Andree has a little trouble with English, but it’s a great improve ment since Paris when she could hardly communicate with her fu ture husband. Her fellow work ers believe the merging of Ameri can slang with her piquant accent have added to her charm and fem ininity. AVomen Overdress As for American fashions, poof! Andree believes many American women overdress. She thinks a woman shouldn’t wear shining ma terials unless she has an excellent figure. Andree has no trouble wearing shining materials. Andree’s clothes are generally simple, but individualistic. She has a tendency to shy away from estab lished fashion trends. And Andree’s quick to insist that “French women are no sex ier than others. . .It's all up to the man.” Oregano Schedule. .. Deluge Dampens Five Basements On UO Campus Wednesday's deluge brought dampened basements to five cam pus buildings. Johnson Hall was the first to weaken, but I. I. Wright, superintendent of the physical plant, reports that the situation there is pretty well under control. Three of the newer buildings got soaked around the foundations. Carson Hall’s heating tunnel was flooded; with damage to the mot ors which cannot yet be determin ed. The rumpus room got a good share of the water. . . .with decor ations for tonight’s house dance floating around the whole base ment. The storage area was check ed at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, and a pump was operating through Thursday to drain the basement. Water from sewers backed up into the audio-visual department of the new library section, and into the shops area at the Univer sity Theater. Even the museum got saturated. The buildings seem to have Web foot repellency, as there was not any serious damage reported. “There’s no telling what might happen if we have another rain like that,” Wright said. “There’s just more water than the sewers can take care of.” -1 CLASSIFIED!
