YM Sets Drive
For Members
A YMCA membership drive—
first of its kind on the Oregon
cam#Ms—will be held Monday
through Friday next week.
President Dave Swanson states
that all men’s living organizations
will be contacted during the drive.
Other men students will be con
tacted by individual members of
the organization.
Now located in 318-319 Student
Union, the YM will carry on an
intensified program this year,
which will include recreation,
sports, national and world affairs
activities, and community, cam
pus, and religious service.
All members are eligible to
serve on committees, which handle
the various aspects of YMCA ac
tivities, Regular membership meet
ings are held every second and
fourth Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30
p.m. in the SU.
The membership committee met
last night to map out final details
of the drive.
Students Warned
About Solicitors
Campus living organizations
have been cautioned again by Ray
Hawk, director of men’s affairs,
not to do business with solicitors
who haven’t been cleared through
the student affairs office.
Every solicitor who comes on
the campus must get a letter of
authorization from Hawk, the di
rector explained.
He said that when a solicitor
comes to the door of a house he
should always be asked for his
authorization letter.
This is mainly for the protec
tion of the students, Hawk said,
because solicitors who are approv
ed are known to be “on the level.”
In addition, Hawk stated that
no house is to make a contract
with an outside photographer to
take pictures of house dances or
parties without first clearing with
him. Any house wishing pictures
of such events can contact Art
French at the University photo
graphic bureau and arrange for
a campus photographer to do the
work.
