Women carry their years more lightly than men, says a writer. ir == Women's Honorary Offering Services Individuals or organizations wishing the services of Phi Theta Upsilon, junior women’s service honorary, should contact Presi dent Jeanne Hoffman at least three days in advance. This new policy was adopted by members of Phi Theta Wednes day, and will go into effect im mediately. Miss Hoffman may be reached at the Kappa Alpha Theta house. SU Fountain Serves 16,000 Around 16,000 persons had been served by the Student Union soda fountain by 5 p. m. Thursday, Miss Ruth Coffey, foods director, reported to the Student Union Board at their Thursday meet ing. Students are served between 1,200 and 1,500 pups of coffee and 45 dozen doughnuts each day, she estimated. Cafeteria line figures show 225 persons served Thurs day noon. Slow service to customers early in the week was explained by Miss Coffey as due to student employees returning to classes. “However, we’re pretty well fixed for the time being,” she said. Unclaimed Mail Held The Student Affairs office has a great deal of uncalled for mail which they cannot forward as yet. Any student who thinks he might have some mail there is asked to check at the office. Russian Literature Classes Now Offered Translated Russian literature classes are being offered this vear from 7 to 10 p. m. on xuesdays under the instruction of Victor C. S trash, assistant professor of Slavic languages. The first class will be held Oct. 3 in 203 Chap man. Sponsored by the general ex tension division of the University the course is open to Eugene townspeople, as well as to stu dents, who are offered three cred its for the class. Who Lives Next Door ? # What’s wrong, Joe? You finally got that new house, didn’t you ? You ought to be real happy* But you look like you ate something that didn’t agree with you. Worried about the people next door? Why? Different religion ? Different sounding names ? So what? Stop worrying, Joe. You’ll find them real Americans. You may even get to like them. If you don’t, that’s all right too. Just leave them alone and they’ll leave you alone. But the chances are, once you really get to know them, you’ll find them okay. In the meantime, count your blessings. You’re in a fine new house with improvements that you couldn’t find anywhere else but in Ameri ca. And how did America get that way? Be cause of a lot of people with even funnier sounding names than the ones your neighbors have. Names like Kosciusko, Pulaski, Haym Salomon. Make sure that you are not spreading rumors against a race or a religion. Speak up, wher ever you are, against prejudice, and work for better understanding. Remember that’s being a good American.
