YW Chairmanships Open for Women Three chairmanships in the YWCA senior cabinet are open to sophomore, junior, and senior women, Beverly Buckley Robath an, YWCA president, announced Tuesday. Positions are open for flying speech and radio, membership, and public relations chairmen. Appli cants may turn in petitions and arrange for personal interviews this week at the YWCA office. Two U of O Students Journey to France Coralie Ann Nelson and Charity Williams, juniors in liberal arts, left Sept. 7 for France on the liner Queen Elizabeth to study French under the Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France plan. The Oregon students were the only two Western college women of the 79 from 31 American col leges and universities to be chosen for the trip. Sixteen groups, led by members )f Kwama, sophomore women’s service honorary, will visit the louses, Joan White Panhellenic president, stated. Rushees are requested to meet n the Panhellenic assembly hall ^oom 2, basement of the Student ijnion, at 12:30 p. m„ where the sours will be organized. A rushee assembly will be held it 6:30 p. m. today in the assem bly hall. Invitational dates begin Thurs lay and continue through Sunday. Preference dates will be Sunday, vith pledging Monday. Ore-nter, Frosh Book Now In Circulation Now in the hands of all freshmen ind new students, is the 1950 Ore nter, edited by Bob Funk. The booklet, published by the ASUO and the Office of Student Affairs, s mailed out in the summer. Bill Carey, was business man ager of the handbook, and Donna Hovalt was art editor. Rushees are to meet at y a. m. each day Thursday through Sun day to receive instructions and pick up invitations, Miss White said. Freshmen pledging at the end of rush week will live in dormitories this year under the deferred liv ing plan adopted by the University. Students with over 36 hours may move into the house after pledging if they have made previous ar rangements with dormitory offi cials. Any questions on rushing will be answered by Panhellenic whose offices are in the Student Union. Again—No Millra Eugene’s plan to have “welcome back” present fo returning students—a fu milrace, got mixed up wit construction of the new Ferr Street bridge last weekend. The result: No millrace. City Manage Oren King said yesterday tha when the race was turned o Friday, it interfered with coi struction of footings for th bridge.
