And students outside the J-school can thank the dean for his work on the academic i requirement committees; for it was he who suggested the removal of the 45-hour re quirement after a Junior Certificate to gradu ate. Dean AVcigle decided to leave Oregon and return to California during last winter s snow storms. Undoubtedly, had Oregon had one of its milder winters, the Dean would not have been so anxious to return to sunny California. We wish him luck in warmer climes, where he will he associate director of the journalism institute. There, under the California palms, he will have more time to delve into research. Theater Awards Set for Friday The annual awarding of prizes for best University Theater per formances of the year will be made at the Theater picnic next Friday at. Swimmer’s Delight. Four awards will be presented. The best male and female perfor mances in leading roles will be awarded a prize along with a presentation for the best perfor mance, male or female, in a sup porting role. An award will also be given for the greatest contribution to the theater in an non-acting category. Transportation and food for the picnic, starting at 3 p.m., will be provided. Those interested in at tending are to sign up in the Uni versity Theater Business Office. Medical School Accepts 21 Twenty-one pre-medical students it the University have been ac cepted for entrance in the Univer sity of Oregon Medical School, it was announced this week. Kntrance date is October, 1950. Two other students were named as alternates. Those named are George K. Ar men Jr., Richard K. Baker, Donald S. Boots, Robert M. Diebel, Neil E. Diess, James L. McCullough, Robert D. Michel, Howard Newton, Wayne L. Norton, Forrest G. Ben nett, Henry H. Dixon, Jr., Kenneth Lewin, James H. Stanley, Daniel A. Heryford. Shirley N. Ebbe, Rich ard B. Belt, George J. Tiss, Richard F. Smith, Robert Cockburn, Alan Jj. Chaimov, and Mustafa Ahamad. Dinner to Honor Foreign Students Fifteen foreign students, who will be returning to their native countries at the end of the term, will be honored at a dinner at G:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Anchorage. The students are Knud Anderson, Walter Billing, Hildur Halldors dottir, Gunther Hermann, Ernst Lutz, Quintin Martinez, Setsuo Masuyama, Madeleine Michel, Car men Perez-Avendano, Erwin Peter, Dirk Schepers, Gisela Schmidt, Shyun Daw Shaw, 'sing W'u, and Teigo Yoshida. Reservations for the dinner, which is open to the public, may be made at the University YMCA, which is sponsoring the dinner. Goodman Heads Mortar Board Anne Goodman, junior in jour nalism, was elected president of Mortar Board, national senior women's honorary at a meeting Tuesday night. Other officers elected are Betty; Wright, vice-president; Janice Hughes, secretary; Dolores Jep pesen .treasurer; Barbara Steven son, reporter, and Ruth Landry, historian.
