Council OK's, Sets Wednesday, April 26, for Student Vote ( C ontinued from page six) If this transfer of the “defeated candidate's” ballots raises the total of another candidate’s votes over the “quota” he will be pronounced elected. After this has been done, if there are positions yet to be filled, again the one with the lowest number of votes will be considered de feated, and his ballots will be transferred to the “continu ing candidates.” This procedure of defeating the lowest candidate and giving his votes to the others who are still in the running will be continued until the election is ended. ARTICLE IV Section 1. Two-thirds of the voting members shall consti tute a quorum in the Senate. ARTICLE V Awards Section I. The Senate shall make all athletic awards in accordance with rules and regulations as determined by the Senate. ARTICLE VI Duties of Cabinet Section I. Duties of Appointive Cabinet Positions. Clause 1. Athletic. This chairman shall supervise and be responsible to the ASUO President for the Athletic Committee, the Rally Board, and the Intramural Com mittee. The Athletic Committee shall represent the student body in relationships with the Athletic Department. The Rally Board shall be responsible for carrying out the rally program and assisting the Yell King. The Intramural Committee shall advise and assist in the development of the intramural program. Clause 2. Social. The social chairman shall assist the ASUO president in the coordination of all campus social events, and in the supervision of the budgets of all class and ASUO social functions. He shall gather and file reports on all ASUO and class activities and advise chairmen of these events upon their request. Clause 3. Public Relations. The public relations chair man shall be responsible for gathering and disseminating information on all ASUO and class activities and func tions. The public relations chairman shall be correspond ent to such organizations as directed by the President of the ASUO. ARTICLE VII Student Union Board Section 1. The Student Union Board shall be an agent of the ASUO and shall have the general responsibility for tlie development of the program within the Erb Memorial Student Union. Section 2. The future method of perpetuation shall be determined by the joint committee provided for in the 194D-50 Student Union Board plan of perpetuation. ARTICLE VIII Amendments Section I. Proposition of Amendments. Amendments to the by-laws of this Association may be proposed bv anv member of this Association. Section II. Adoption. A three-fourths vote of the mem bership of the Senate shall be necessary for the adoption of such amendments. f Soph Chosen For Paris Trip In Junior Year Charity Williams, sophomore in liberal arts, has been accepted in the group of students from the ^ United States who will study at the Sorbonne in Paris next year under the “Junior Year in France” program sponsored by Sweet Briar College. The group, limited to 75 this year, is selected from colleges and universities throughout the United States. The students are chosen on a basis of scholarship and achieve ment in French. Composition Miss Williams took her first year of French under Miss Janine Cour tillon last year, then attended sum mer school to gain her second-year French course. She is now study ing French composition and con versation and Survey of French Literature under R. L. Picard, pro fessor of romance languages and Spanish Literature under P. J. Powers, professor of romance lan guages. Perhaps Philosophy Miss Williams, who has an ac cumulative GPA of 3.8, expects to study French literature and his tory, and possibly a course in phil osophy while at the Sorbonne. A member of Pi Delta Phi, French honorary, she lives in Hen dricks Hall. The “Junior Year in France” group will leave New York Sept. 7 aboard the Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth Kratt, senior in French, studied in Paris last year under the same plan. IRC to Elect Officers For Coming Year Next year’s officers will be elect ed at tonight’s meeting of the In ternational Relations Club. The meeting will be held at 7:30 in the Men’s Lounge of Gerlinger Hall. Grace Sargent, regional secre tary of the national IRC and dele gate from the University, will be featured on the program. She will describe the national IRC conven tion which she attended at the Uni versity of Michigan at Ann Arbor. National Industry Symposium Topic “To What Extent Should We Na tionalize Industry?” is the topic for discussion presented to south ern Oregon listeners Monday and Tuesday by a University sympos ium discussion group. Medford, Ashland and Central Point high schools will hear the speakers, as well as the Medford Rotary club. Joe Coenenberg, Nancy L. O’Con ner, and Jack Leitheiser comprise the speaking trio. R. L. Montgom ery, professor of speech, is ac companying the group. Kwomo Petitions Require Pictures Clear snapshots or photographs of the applicant must accompany petitions for membership in Kwama, sophomore women’s ser vice honorary, President Lorna Larson announced Monday. Deadline for petitions is May 1. Freshman women with a minimum of 2.00 GPA, both cumulative and last term, may apply for member ship, which is limited to 30 women. Activity participation and schol ir arship are the bases for selection into the group. New members will be tapped from the freshman class at the Mortar Board Ball, May 27.
