'Singers' on Tour In Northwest me university singers ot tne School of Music, under the direc tion of Donald W. Allton, are now on tour in Oregon and Washing ton. Thursday the Singers presented their program at Burns Union High School. The tour will continue until Apr. 2 and will include singing at Walla Walla College and Grant High scnooi in rortiana. Tuesday and Wednesday the group sang- at high schools in Sweet Home, Prineville, Redmond, and Bend. The University Singers are as sisted by the Madrigal Singers. Accompanists for the program are Anne Hopper, junior in mu sic, and Madelon Adler, sophomore in music. Park to Feature Castle Jazz Band Portland’s Castle Jazz Band will play at Willamette Park tonight from 8:30 to 12:30. Admission will be $1 plus tax. The band was originated in Portland in 1940 by the band’s singer-banjo strummer, Monte Bal lou, who has gathered together men who could improvise and who knew what Dixieland jazz was. By day, the Castle troupe is a conventional group of Portland businessmen. Ballou is an accom plished caiypso singer as well as being one of the nation’s top jazz record collectors. — Drummer Homer Welch is radio station KGW’s program director. Clarinetist, Bob Short works for an electrical appliance firm, and George Phillips, trombonest, is a working musician who last year played with the Portland symphony orchestra. The group was invited to play at Hollywood’s annual Jazz Jam boree in October, where such jazz artists as Muggsy Spanier and Freeman were featured. Rebec House Gets Participation Cup Rebec house Thursday night won the Participation cup awarded annually by the Women’s Athletic Association. Delta Delta Delta came in second and University house third for the award. The cup was awarded on a point basis, points being given on the basis of new members taken in,, checks earned by old members,, number of tournaments entered, number of semi-finals entered, and tournaments won.
