The varsity team recently suf fered a damaging blow when Pete Van Dijk, one of the fastest swim mers that the University has ever Pad, was declared ineligible for Northern Division meets. He will swim for the Frosh tomorrow. The meet will be held in the Mens’ Pool at 2:30 in the afternoon. There will be no admission charge. Frosh Ready; Reds Next Oregon’s power-packed Frosh Basketball team will be out to im prove it’s win-and-loss record this weekend when Coach Don Kirsch sends his charges against Redmond High school Friday night and Vanport Junior College on Satur day. Both contests will be prelimi naries to the Oregon-Washington varsity games, and will start at G:15. Vanport Again Saturday night’s encounter will be the second time the Ducklings have played Vanport this season, the first resulting in a thrilling 50 44 win for the Junior Greenmen. Since that time hoopmen who were then wearing Oregon colors, name ly Lloyd Bergman, Keith Farnum, and Don Hoy, have transferred to the Junior College and will un doubtedly be put into action against their old teammates. These three, plus guard LeRoy Coleman, center Don Schuberg, and forward Art Shepherd are counted on heavily by Coach Arba Ager to provide the Vanport scoring punch. At the starting posts for the Frosh will probably be the squad that has seen most of the action in the several scrimmages with -the varsity this past week. The five consists of Curt Barclay and Chet Noe at the forwards, Hank Bonne man at center, and Bud Covey and Nick Schmer holding down the guard positions. Huskies Fear Tough Battle SEATTLE, Wash.—The Univer sity of Washington, Cinderella bas ketball team o fthe Northern Divi sion, is still wearing its golden slip per. With six conferenc games now in the record books the Huskies who were picked in pre-season selec tions to finish no better than fourth in a five team league, are leading the parade two full games ahead of second place Washington State. They risk their hard-earned laurels this week-end in a pair of return en gagements with the Oregon Ducks. Tough Game Although the Huskies measured the Webfoots by 69-49 and 66-51 scores last week-end in Seattle, Coach Art McLarney predicts tougher games at McArthur Court. Likely he is remembering Washing ton’s 1949 experience when the Huskies invaded Eugene with a pair of Seattle victories over the Ducks, only to have Coach John Warren’s cagers reverse the pro cedure and take both games on their own floor. Judged strictly on form shown thus far in the season, the Huskies should manage a split series with the Webfoots. However, the Oregons, when hot,, are the most dangerous shooting team in the league and could conceivably sink Washington twice. Off his performance in the second Oregon game in Seattle, Russ Parthemer may get the start ing call over Hal Arnason at for ward. With the Huskies trailing by seven points midway through the first half, Parthemer moved into the line-up and tossed in three field goals and a free throw to tie the score. Guisness Leads Flyin’ Frankie Guisness catapul ted to the top of the Husky confer ence scorers as a result of his shoot ing proclivities against Oregon Fri day and Saturday, passing his part ner Lou Soriano who still leads in overall season scoring. The sopho more guard from' Vancouver un loosed a 41-point barrage against the Webfoots in the two-game set to boost his conference mark to 80 points in six contests. Soriano is close behind with 75 counters and a season’s total of 191—tops for the club. Dead Eye Captain LaDon Henson’s deadly shooting against the visiting Ore gonians gave him the lead in shoot ing percentages among the regu lars with a .362 mark. In the foul 9hooting department, Guisness has hit 30 out of 37, Soriano 17 out of 20, and Hal Arnason 8 out of 10. Duane Enochs tops the club in per sonal fouls with 25. Duck Sparkplug _ _ WILL URBAN, the sparkplug of the Duck team will see action against the Washington Huskies tonight and tomorrow night. Will who has been out of action during a part o fthe season, has returned and proved his worthiness in both scoring punch and handling the ball. Urban will be the man to wratch during the twb game series at Mac Court. Warren Prepares Ducks for Huskies Coach John Warren and the Ore gon Ducks have been bdsy all this week preparing what they hope will be a surprise to the powerful Wash ington Huskies this Friday and Saturday nights at McArthur Court. Ducks Ready The Ducks dropped a pair of Northern Division games to the Huskies in Seattle last weekend and now the two teams meet in the final half of the 1950 series. Last year the same situation existed. The Washington club won both games in Seattle and then came to Eugene to run into an improved Oregon team and lose the final two contests. For Dads Coach Warren and his Ducks would like to duplicate the 1949 re suits and even the series again in the final two games. In addition, this weekend will be dedicated to the Oregon Dads on the campus and the Saturday basketball game will be the climax of the annual af fair. Last year the Oregon Dads were on the campus for the Wash ington series and watched the Ducks win the pair from the Hus kies. As a result of the act on in Se attle it appears that the spectacu lar junior guard from Portland, Jack Keller, has earned a guard spot in the starting lineup.
