Advertising Recognition Week
will help to create greater recogni
tion of the values of advertising,
and aid in making business and in
dustry more aware of the force
and potence of advertising as a
sales tool, according to the associ
ation.
•Council to OK
Meter Purchase
The Eugene city council is
scheduled to accept a report of
the purchase of 75 parking meters
at its bi-weekly meeting tonight
in the city hall.
The meters will be installed in
the near future in the business
section adjacent to the campus.
Purchase of meters for tins dist
inct was suggested by the Univer
sity Civic Association, a group of
businessmen near the campus, to
facilitate a faster turnover in ve
hicle parking and to permit pat
rons a better chance to park near
business houses.
The meters, to cost $75 each,
vill be installed within the next
30 to 60 days, according to City
Manager Oren King.
They will be put up on the business
side of 11th Avenue between Hil
lard and Alder, parts of Alder be
tween 31th and 13th, and along
13th in the block between Kincaid
and Alder.
Parking on the opposite side of
11th will be restricted w'hen the
meters have been installed in that
block.

Intramural Action
Slated by Group
Philadelphia House, newly or
ganized men’s cooperative living
organization, will participate in
intramural sports and other cam
pus activities as a group this
term.
The house now has 22 members
and has facilities for approxim
ately 28 men.
Founded independently upon
Christian principles, the house is
interdenominational. The name
“Philadelphia" was chosen to
mean literally “house of brotherly
love.”
There are no official sponsors
for the group, which is now in
the process of ' incorporation.
Friends in various churches have
aided the group with donations.

To Meet Tuesday
Students interested in inter
collegiate debate, symposium, ex
temporaneous speaking, or other
speech activities may attend the
first winter term meeting of the
University Forensics Group, to be
held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in 104
Villard.
Debate topic for winter term
will be: “Resolved: The United
States should nationalize basic
(non-agricultural) industries.
The group is under the direction
of Dr. E. R. Nichols Jr.
Office Provides
Jobs for 824
Jobs for 824 students were lo
cated during fall term by the Uni
versity Employment Office, Miss
Shirley Sylvester, manager, re
ported Monday. Of these, 263 were
regular part-time or full-time jobs,
and the remaining 561 were tem
porary.
Temporary jobs consisted of
various odd jobs, and also office
work and sales. Both the campus
and downtown were covered by the
regular work, which was mainly
office work, sales work, and ser
vice work.
In December, 122 jobs were lo
cated, 94 of which were temporary.
Little vacation work was found,
due to the short vacation before
Christmas. The majority of these
jobs were for girls.

Petitions Due Today
Petition deadline for chairman
ship of the campus March of
Dimes drive is 4 p.m. today.
Duties of the campus chairman
include promotion and arranging
for campus contributions for the
yearly drive for funds to combat
infantile paralysis.

Fraternity Initiation Set
Initiation of new members to
Delta Nu Alpha, national traffic
fraternity, will be held Tuesday
night at 6:30 in the Anchorage.
Price of the dinner is $1.50 and
members are asked to call Waites
Grande, Campbell Club, for reser
vations.
Theater Board Will Meet
The advisory board of the Uni
versity Theater will meet at 4
p.m. Thursday in the Green Room,
of the new theater. The student
faculty board will discuss studeni
nominations for the 1950 board.
