Phi Psi Takes on Chi Psi In Annual]Beer Bowl Tilt By PAUL THALHOFER Four kegs of beer will be at stake Saturday afternoon, when the twc thirstiest elevens in the country the Chi Psis and Phi Psis, collide in the 16th annual playing of the Beer Bowl game—the ‘daddy’ of ’em all. This traditional tussle, slated for 1:30 p.m. on the intramural field, was originated at Oregon in 1931 with the Phi Psis taking the initial contest 6-0. Of the 15 games played to date, the Big Red from the White House has collected nine victories and 36 kegs to five and 20 for the Lodge men—two tilts ended in scoreless deadlocks. In the last brawl, held in 1947, the Chi Psis emerged vic torious by a 2-to-0 count. After breezing to the intra mural touch football champion ship, the Blue-and-Gold brigade will be heavily favored to win the annual tackle orgy again this year. Reports from the Chi Psi train ing camp have it that a devastat ing new passing attack has been cooked up especially for the 11th Avenue Boozer Boys. Choo-Choo Charlie Rufner, Chi Psi grid boss, has kept mum about his team’s chances for victory, but Lodge fans are anything but pessi mistic as to the outcome of Satur day’s “Battle for Brew.” The Phi Psi coaching staff re ports the Big Red squad to be in only fair shape after a rugged schedule of beer-busts and par ties. While passing the crying towel around, the Big Red head men all voiced the opinion that they could n’t possibly stop the Chi Psi’s dazz ling aerial attack and just hoped the score wouldn’t be too big against them. “Cool” Cal Smith, backfield coach stated, “We haven’t got a chance but we’ll be fightin’ all the time.” Line mentor “Tiny” Tim Preston commented, “Even if’n we don’t whup ’em, dem bums ’ull know day wuz in a game.” Coach “Tearjerk er” Thalhofer just sat in the cor ner and moaned.
