    Everything's Just Jake
JAKE WILLIAMS, nine-fingered pass receiver of Bill Bovverman’s
I'rosli grid men, led his teammates to a 20-to-0 triumph over the
Vanport Vikings on Hayward Field yesterday. Two of Williams’
catches were good for touchdowns.
Ducklings Knock
Off Vanport 20-0
Oregon’s Frosh passed and ran their way to a 20-to-0 win over
Vanport Junior College on Hayward Field yesterday before
more than 1,500 fans.
Fig Jake Williams accounted for two Frosh scores. The agile
left end took a pass from quarterback Norm Fenton in the first
quarter and squirmed his way over the goal from the 15 yard line.
Again in the third quarter, Fenton tossed the ball to Williams
from a punt formation on the Van
port 15 yard lino. Williams grabbed
the ball in the end' zone for the
counter.
[n the second period, quarterback
Harold Dunham, who saw limited
action in the game, looped a pass
to halfback Ron Lyman in the end
zone.
Wayne Larsons made good his
first two conversions for the
Yearlings, with the last attempt
falling short.
Vanport's only threat at the goal
line came late in the final quarter
after Frosh fullback Carl Ervin’s
punt was blocked on the Vanport 45
yard line by right tackle Bill Mc
Ginn. *
McGinn saw his last action of
the game in that play, after hav
ing been helped of fthe field and
in the first half.
Starting from their own 45, Van
port drove to within 11 yards of the
Fmsh goal before Leroy Coleman’s
passes and running plays stopped
cli 'king. Two long gains added the
drive. One pass, Coleman to ex
Krosh Chuck Bafaro, netted 15
yards. On another play, Coleman
{' i ifted back to pass and was almost
trapped by Frosh rushers when he
elected to run and picked up IS
yards before Emery Barnes hauled
hi u down from behind.
M the Frosh 11 yard line, fum- [
lutes and incomplete passed even
tiallj gave the ball to the Frosh
on their own 24. The game ended
five plays later.
Throughout the game, Freshmen
D i Sloan, Ron Lyman, Jess Fogar-,
ty, and Carl Ervin ran through wide |
holes in the Vanport line, only to be
dropped continually by Vikings
line-backers.
Jerry Peckover, who played for
Bill Bowerman in the Frosh back
field last year, turned in a powerful
fullbacking job for Vanport until
he was hurt in the second period
and benched for the remainder of
the game.
Once in the first quarter, again
in the third period, and finally in
the fourth quarter, the Frosh came
within 10 yards of the Vanport goal
without pushing the ball across.

Ducks Invade Iowa
For the first time in history, the University
of Oregon will meet the University of Iowa on
the gridiron. The game is slated to get under
way at 1 :30 (CST), or 11 :30 Eugene time, and
will he carried over station KASH.
Oregon will go into the game as the under
dog, since the Hawkeyes have been set up one
touchdown favorites.
Coach Jim Aiken ran the Ducks through a
light drill Friday at Iowa Stadium, Iowa City,
and is reported to have made that one TD spot
look wrong.
Midland weather has been crisp, but dry.
That plus the fact that both Hawk mentor Ed
die Anderson and Aiken work their teams off
the “T” indicates a high-scoring contest. Both
elevens boast a dependable aerial attack, and
both are known for their cpiick opening plays.
It might boil down to which team can strike
first, and whether Oregon’s defense will stop
the Hawk short passing game. The complete
use of the Notre Dame box will be something
new for the Lemon and Green, but it is not ex
pected to pose much of a problem.
The two Iowa pass catching sensations. Jack
Dittmer and Bob McKenzie have hauled in 25
forward passes between them for a total of 447
yards. Glenn Drahn, the Hawkeye’s leading
hope to replace A1 DiMarco, has completed 29
passes this season for a total gain of 437 yards,
and five touchdowns.
