Student Union Nears Completion THE ERB MEMORIAL UNION, tentatively slated to open in March, 1950, is beginning to resemble this architect’s perspective more closely. Construction is going ahead on schedule, with workmen now com pleting the brick outside facing. Building equipment is being ordered, and should arrive in time to be in stalled before Feb. 1. Dan Cooper, professional New York decorator, is in charge of Student Union interior decoration. He got the best throw of his life on the trip when he threw 234 feet in Stockholm. Louie White, diminutive colored marathon runner from Boston who was the favorite of the crowd; Gay Bryan, Stanford’s workhorse who was the top prize winner of the trip. HUTCH STARS Theta Chi, with a flashy two pla toon system and some smart plays, brought down the quickly organized team from Stan Ray. Hutchinson starred with his good passing and shifty running. Mockford tallied first in the first quarter on a pass from Hutch. The next score came when Hutchinson ran all the way. With three minutes to go Hebard caught a pass to up the score an other six points and Vannet came through with the conversion. The final score, Theta Chi 20, Stan Ray 0. Lambda Chi Alpha subdued Campbell club after a long, hard battle. With Ruzika and Cook play USC broad jumper who won most of the broad jumping, followed by Bryan. Hugh Miocco, NYU, 400 meter sprinter who won consistently; Tom Montgomery, San Francisco Olympic Club who trained on the Oregon campus last spring; and John Turney, Illinois Athletic Club, National AAU mile king that Ore gon’s Jack Hutchins beat in the Compton Relays last spring. CLUBBERS FALL Lambda Chi’s score came late in the second quarter when Smith caught a 40 yard pass tossed by Da vis. It was nip and tuck after that until the last quarter when Camp bell club marched 60 yards only to be stopped by Davis, who intercept ed a pass. Campbell club rolled up four first downs to Lambda Chi’s three, but still came out short on a 6-0 final score.
