School of Education Honors Stetson at Farewell Banquet A farewell buffet dinner was held Sunday at the Eugene hotel for Fred L. Stetson, professor of educa tion,who will be retired at the end of spring term. He has taught at the University since 1913. An address was given by James Burgess, superintendent of schools in Astoria. Many of Stetson’s friends, professional associates and colleagues attended the affair, sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa and Pi Lambda Theta, school of educa tion honoraries. 1913. Before coming to Oregon, he had served as principal in grade and high schools in Washington and Wisconsin, and held various posi tions in other schools and universi ties. He acted as a visiting profes sor at the University of Pennsyl vania in the summer of 1929. cieties including Phi Beta Kappa, received his Master’s degree from the University of Washington in Stetson, a member of numerous state, northwest, and national so Radio Week Reviewed; New Schedule Presented Dr. Paul S. Dull, assistant pro fessor of political science and his tory, spoke on “What Would a Communist China Mean to Oregon’’ over KOAC last night at 8:45. An expert on Far Eastern affairs, Dr. Dull has traveled extensively in China, Japan, and Korea, and is probably as qualified as any person outside of high government circles to interpret present developments in China. Webfoot Huddles, featuring Bob Roberts an Norm Lamb, discussed the sports week at the university. Among the topics discussed were the signing of Jerry Lillie as assist ant football coach, and the windup of the track, tennis, and baseball campaigns. The show ran from 8 p. m. for fifteen minutes. A half hour musical program starting at 8:15 presented Margaret Adkins, pianist, and Janet Nielsen, soprano. Miss Adkins played selec tions by Beethoven, Brahms, and DeBussy, while Miss Nielsen’s se lections included works by Mozart and Franz Schubert. Tonight, Campus Headlines will present an original program deal ing with the school of architecture and allied arts. The script, written by Jay Ryerse and Marge Truchon, will feature running commentary by Dean Sidney Little, and his sec retary Eileen Rudd, concerning ac tivity within the school. A musical interlude features Mary Cooper, coloratura soprano. Miss Cooper will sing three selec tions. The program is produced by Norm Lamb and will come over KO AC at 9 p. m. Freddy Frosh will never learn, His travels are a mess— Loaded down with luggage Which should go RAILWAY, EXPRESS Physics Senior New President Of SPS Chapter Robert Wright, University senior in physics, was elected president of the Oregon chapter of Sigma Pi Sig ma, national physics scholastic so ciety, last Thursday. Other officers elected were Wes ley Nicholson, vice-president, Rob ert Brown, secretary; and Dwight Berreman, treasurer. Recently initiated into member ship in the organization were 16 University students and faculty members. The students included Byron Brendon, Richard Dahlberg, Mrs. Phyllis Hanson, Wesley Nich olson, Arnold Knudson, John Lew is, Alan Peterson, Robert Forrest, Donald Kohler, and Hsicnyung Chen. Among faculty members initiated were James Ballingall, Craig Hud son, Herman Johansen, Leonard Jones, Fa-Si La, and Shih-Kan Chen. Old members and new initiates will hold a picnic on June 8, 4 p m., at Skinners Butte. The University chapter of the na tional group was organized in the spring of 1948. High School Senior Wins Oregon Mother's Scholarship Announcement of its 1949 Schol arship winners was made yester day by the University of Oregon Mothers’ scholarship committee. Oregon Dads’ scholarship winners were announced simultaneously. Awards of $200 each went to Sar ah Jane Keeley of Milwauxie, win ning the Petronella G. Peets schol arship; Vera Gwen Paugh, Baker, for the Louise H. Cook scholarship; and Roberta Ellen McKown of North Bend, the Eurt Brown Bar ker scholarship. Supplementary scholarships of $100 were presented to Marilyn Joan Holcomb, Newport; LaRae Kenner, Sherwood; Robert A. Paul, Newburg; Betty Jane Moshoisky,. Beaverton; Philip Hamilton Ringle, Salem; Lois Evelyn Schmidt, Tilla mook; Albert Leland Wach, Hood River; Joanne Lee Walker, Lincoln, Portland, and Jacqueline Jewell Wilkes, Washington, Portland. Oregon Dads awarded four Don ald M. Erb Memorial scholarships of $100 each to Donna F. Beckius, Franklin, Portland; Richard A. Bray, Eugene; Sharon Sue Wil liams, Klamath Falls; and Helen Elizabeth Jackson, Klamath Falls. Awards of $50 were given by Ore gon Mothers to Mary Karen Ere meef, Milwaukie; Barbara Ann Ful ton, Eugene; and Joan Dorene Ja cobs, Eugene.
