On Painting Job
WASHINGTON, May 16—(AP)
President Truman had no comment
today on an AFL union’s protest
that a non-union painter is paint
ing the summer white house at In
dependence, Mo.
The response of White House of
ficials also was no comment when
asked if the non-union painter will
continue on the job.
Reports out of Independence say
that John Cooke, AFL business
representative, had protested the
employment of John H. Moler, 67,
to do work on the big frame Tru
man home on North Delaware
street.
Presidential Press Secretary
Charles G. Ross was asked at a
news conference if Mr. Truman
had received the protest.
Ross replied that he had read in
the newspapers that a protest had
been made. He said he talked with
the president.
“He says he has no comment,”
Ross added.
“Then the work will go ahead ?”
M reporter said.
Ross replied, “No comment on
that.”
