EUGENE, SATURDAY, MAY 7, 1949 wi'URrn mi fiVN Co-Queens to Rule Festivities I Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Phi Capture All-Campus Sing • Mary Margaret Jones and Phyllis Morgan ' Picked as Co Queens of Junior Weekend Two junior weekend queens, Mary Margaret Jones and Phyl lis Morgan, were crowned last night at the annual all-campus sing. This is the first time in history that two girls have received the same number of votes. Alpha Phi and Sigma Phi Epsilon were first place winners in the men’s and women's divisions of the sing. Jean Lichty led the Alpha Phi’s, who sang “Waltz of the Flowers,” while Kurt Finch directed the big .bps m Were You There?” Delta Gamma, led by Gay Williams, took second place honors with “I Love Little Willy,” as did Sigma Nil's “Shenandoah,” directed by Steve Stone. Sally Terrih led the Chi Omega's in "Snow White Medley," which won third place. “A Capital Ship" hy Beta Theta Pi. with Paul Ed lund as song leader, placed third in the men’s division. Procession of Queens The sing was opened by a pro cession of the princesses. Donna Masterson, Phyllis Morgan, Vir ginia Thompson, Harriet Vannatta, and Mary Margaret Jones, with an honor guard of Scabbard and Blade military honorary members. Mayor Edwin Johnson of Eugene crowned the queens, whose names were kept in sealed envelopes carried to the stage by Michael Newburn. Rickie Fogdall was crown bearer, and Su zanne Johnson was flower girl. Eight students were named to receive cash scholarships that ranged from $350 to $75. Winner of the Josephine Evans Harpham cup for the best house library reading program was Delta Delta Delta sorority, whose librarian is Fran ces Healy. Winning second, third, and fourth places were Rebec house, Highland house, and Alpha Chi Omega. Chosen to receive the Hazel P. Schwering memorial scholarship, given annually to a junior woman, was Leola Odland. Honored as winners of the two new Delta Del ta Delta scholarships were Anita Holmes, as incoming junior wom an, and Rose Seid, as incoming senior woman. Money for these awards was earned by a baby-sit ting project of Tri-Delt members. Smith Memorial The Janet Smith memorial co-op scholarship went to Jean Living ston. The affair will begin at 9 p. m. Flowers are optional for this formal affair. Mothers will have a special section reserved in the east balcony, with refreshments served for them in a lounge on the east balcony mezzanine. Big Decorations Bigness will be the impressive thing about the decorations, ac cording to Co-chairman Mac Epe ly, who is working on decorations with Joan Mimnaugh. The City of The frosh-sophomore tug-of war, originally scheduled for yesterday, will be held at 10 a.m. today, behind the Kappa Sig’ house. Will Urban of the Order of the O, requested that each men’s living organization send one freshman and one sopho more to participate in the tradi tional event.
