Mothers Won't Be Out in Cold,
Says Housing Chairman Buckley
■ “Plenty of housing” is the word
regarding the forthcoming Moth
er's weekend, according to Hous
ing Chairman Bev Buckley.
She urged that students plan to
have their mothers attend the
weekend, run this year in conjunc
tion with Junior weekend, adding
that students who have not yet
made arrangements for housing
oontact her at the Tri-Delt house.
' Cartons of cigarettes will be
'-awarded to the living organiza
tions having the highest percen
tage of mothers here for the week
fend.
A view of the end of the float
parade will be possible after the
Saturday afternoon tea. A special
section in the balcony will be made
available so mothers may watch
the Junior prom; open houses in
various campus departments, and
other attractions are planned.
A special issue of the Emerald
will be printed next Tuesday, ex
plaining both Mothers’ weekend
and Junior weekend. Blank ad
dress stickers will be distributed
to living organizations, addressed
and returned to the Emerald so
the edition may be mailed out.
Remembers Other Courts...
Princess Mary Enjoys New Role
“I saw the Junior weekend prin
cesses when I was still in high
school, but I never realized that I
would be one myself,” said Prin
cess Mary Margaret Jones.
Mary received the news of her
selection at the home of her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Jones,
when a group of her sorority sis
ters interrupted a bridge game to
bring her the announcement.
“Living in Eugene is fine,” Mary
stated, “but since we've just
moved, my only complaint is that
we have no phone.”
The dark-eyed princess is a
graduate of Eugene high, where,
during her senior year, she was
both May queen, and war bond
queen. She was also selected as a
Little Captain in her sophomore
year at the University.
A biology major, Mary Margaret
is a contradiction to the old say
ing, “beautiful, but dumb.'' for her
cumulative GPA is well over 3
point.
One of her favorite pastimes is
playing with Dinah, her dog. Dinah
is a beagle, which, according to
Mary Margaret, is the second most
popular dog in the United States.
A member of Pi Beta Phi, Mary
takes an active part in house ac
tivities, and although she doesn’t
live at the house, she spends a
great deal of her time there.
Standing about 5 feet 5 inches,
Mary Margaret's other interests
include bridge and knitting, both
of which she is very adept at doing.
After graduation, Mary hopes to
go on working for her master’s
degree, or go into biological re
search work.

Cigar-Smoking Beauty to Rule Law Weekend
By Marjorie Bush
- Queen Avery I, she of the full
red lips and soft, brown, receding
•hair, told last week how it felt to
J5e chosen queen of Law School
| weekend.
“It’s the greatest honor in seven
(-years of college and since 1 first
i Started to Oregon back in ’33,’’
"she exclaimed. The queen, better
-known as Avery (age-before-beau
ty) Combs in the Stacks, asserted
’that her platform of Purity and
Maturity will be maintained. As
for the rest of her family, Queen
Avery said her wife thought it
i_ was “not too bad” to be related to
.royalty and was planning on re
cording the event with pictures
.(possibly for blackmail).
Dual Personality
Described by her “friends” as
'the quiet and lurid type, Queen
-Avery is said to have a Dr.Jekyll
Land Mr. Hyde personality. During
| campaigning she was compared to
>-a beautiful little schmoo. Five feet
bine in height and 160 pounds
-(conservative estimate) describe
her.
. “I’m a perfect 36,” Queen Actery
blushingly admitted—“36 bust, 36
waist, 36 hips and 36 shoulders.”
'For her current hair-style, she has
chosen an up-sweep from her high
forehead, however, last fall the
queen was sporting a new feather i
Job. Fishing is one of Her Majes
:y’s pet diversions.
When the annual baseball game
between the law school and BA
school takes place next Saturday,
Queen Avery will throw out the
first pitch. “I have lots of experi
ence from the American Legion
team,” she said. Queen Avery pre
dicts an easy victory for the fu
ture lawyers, either on runs or
technicalities, at least by 10.
QUEEN AVERY I (eyeshade and cigar) reflects in this pose her platform of “Purity and Maturity.”
Better known as Avery Combs, the law school queen will rule over festivities this weekend. Included
in the right photo are Princess Bob Carney and fl jwer girls Jack Jill and Wally Martin.
Completing the royal court are
Princesses Robert and Richard
Carney. Chosen unanimously and
making history by being the first
twins to achieve this honor, they
ran on the platform, “Which twin
has the phoni?’’ Because Richard
(known as Dickie Boy at Susan
Campbell) was unavailable for an
interview, Robert spoke for both
of them.
“We were overwhelmed,” Prin
cess Robert gasped, “simply over
whelmed!” (She also muttered “I
was framed!”) Friends say that
one of the luscious red-haired twins
is commonly believed to be Edgar
Bergen and the other Charlie Mc
Carthy.
Flower Girls
Flower girls for the gala affair
will be Jack Hill, Wally Martin,
and Bill Rooney. Hill is the prece
dent-shattering candidate who was
chosen in spite of his third-year
standing. Besides his many tal
ents, he is also known as the law
school's “best-dressed.”
Wally Martin, second-year stu
dent, was acclaimed as one of the
three people in the law school who
doesn’t shave—the other two are
women. He serves also as assistant
director of the Royal Loyal Coro
nation band. Petite Bill Roonby
was awarded the junior position of
first-year flower girl.
