Everything but the Back Seat Libe Addition Parallels New Autos By Bill Clothier The addition to the campus li brary shows every indication of aping the current trends establish ed by post-war cars. The Studebaker influence will be plainly seen in the great expanse of glass stretching around the ul tra-modern edifice. The windows will extend in an unbroken line for ward and aft, port and starboard, with only steel supports intersect ing the panes of glass. The sly hand of the Nash-Kelvi nator people will show in the con struction of the building itself. All steel it will be, an interlocked, rig idly braced, self contained unit of tremendous strength. No brick or wood material will be used. The weather eye principle has been adopted for complete and carefree ventilation sans draft and dust. The impact of Buick’s dynaflow drive has truly revolutionized the transportation facilities inside the building. Buick dispensed with a clutch. The library designers struck out the stairs. Students and per manent personnel will glide from the ground floor to the top floor in a silken-smooth, unbroken surge oi elevator power. Each person will be required to bring his own power unit to negotiate the ramps. The excavation is nearly com plete. Provided no unforseen ex igencies develop, the new wing will be finished by next spring. It will rest on a blue rock foundation. Due to the new wing’s unique de sign it lends itself to speedy and economical construction. It is the first such biulding to be built in Oregon, and is expected to prove very lasting and durable. The new addition will increase the space of the library by four-fifths of the present library floor space. Friendly House Friendly house will have a mar ried couples’ pot luck Saturday ev ening at 6:30. After dinner the group will participate in folk and square dancing. All married Couples and their families are welcome. Washke on Committee Dr. Paul R. Washke, professor of physical education, will serve on the 1949 nominating committee of the Northwest District of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
