Phi Beta Books Portland Recital The Portland alumnae group of Phi Beta, women’s national music and drama fraternity, will present a concert at the Portland art mu seum Sunday afternoon, March 6. Participating in the program along with members of the alumnae group will be sopranos Jean Lichty and Virginia Walker and pianist Mary Nash—all members of the Oregon Phi Beta organization. Miss Nash, who studies with E. W. Bittner, assistant professor of ^>iano, this year won the $100 schol arship given by Phi Beta patron esses. Miss Walker is a pupil of Herman Gelhausen, associate pro fessor of voice, and Miss Lichty studies with Florence Vanderwick cn, assistant professor of voice. The concert is an annual event of the organization, and last year’s •University students participating were Lucile Olson, who received this year’s $100 alumnae scholar ship, Janet Shafer, and Sylvia Kill man. Dispute Slows Work on Dorm The new women’s dorm is experi encing a labor slowdown as the re sult of the lack of a contract with the Cement Finishers union. The. bogging down of negotiations has come about through the disagree ment over over-time. Without working overtime, which the finishers refuse to do without a contract, it is almost impossible to complete pouring the cement. Consequently the work on the dorm has been slowed down considerably. The Erb Memorial Union job is going ahead at its usual pace, how ever. The Hammon Construction Company has arranged for the men to return to work there with retroactive pay if the contract changes the current rate.
