Scabbard Blade Initiates Fourteen Scabbard and Blade, men’s na tional military honorary, an nounc'd the initiation of 14 new Oregon members last week. Charles Gratke, '23, Featured In January Old Oregon Charles Gratke, one of Oregon’s famous graduates of ’23, is the fea tured author in the January issue of Old Oregon, alumni magazine. Subscribers are receiving the mag azine this week, according to Jim Wallace, editor. “World Order vs. Red Chaos” was the topic Gratke discussed. He considered “a fundamental change in our approach to the world prob lem” as the most significant thing which has happened in 1948. “The way to cope with this thing which we abhor (the spread of Communism) is to place the em phasis upon our constructive tasks” the foreign editor of Christian Sci ence Monitor wrote. Another story in the January alumni magazine was written by Dean S. W. Little of the art and ar chitecture store. He has written a series on present and planned ex pansion of the campus. The bureau of municipal re search was explained by Bill Was mann, managing editor of Old Ore gon. Other stories introduced new alumni officers and Bill Williams, union leader. A photo of Crater Lake was used on this month’s cover.
