    Eugene Group Gets Charter
From World Federalists

do a lot in the promotion of world
peace and government, the Eugene
Student Federalists have been or
ganized and will hold their opening
meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, at
the YWCA. All students and fac
ulty members are invited to attend,
according to Herbert Weiss, chair
man.
This group, formed by Univer
sity students, recently obtained its
charter from the United World
Federalists, line., which supports
the formation of eventual World
Federal Government. Among those
listed on the UWF’s national ad
visory board are William O. Doug
las of the United States supreme
court and Dr. Albert Einstein, sci-'

Dorothy Plettenburg will explain
the background of the movement
at the meeting Wednesday. Glen
Gregory, chairman of the down
town UWF chapter, will discuss
the progress this group has made
in the United States and of similar
groups in other countries. Aims
and plans of the Student Federal
ists for this term will be outlined
by Weiss.
“We believe that students espe
cially have the power and duty to
educate and further the goals of
world peace,” Weiss stated. “We
intend to maintain this spirit as
a group and will work to expand
our movement here and in the en
tire Northwest.”
A speakers’ bureau has been or
ganized under the leadership of
Eva Paronen. Speakers will be
made available to any group or or
ganization wishing to hear more
about the movement. Bob Miller,
public relations director, has
charge of working out this pro
gram. Among other projects sug
gested is the taking of an all-cam
pus poll on the subject of world
government.
The group is also working on a
campaign to push a resolution
coming up in the Oregon house and
senate which would recommend
the establishment of a World Fed
eral Government to congress and
the president.
The statement of beliefs of the
UWF endorsed by the Eugene
chapter, resolves that, “We believe
that peace is not merely the ab
sence of war, but the presence of
justice, of law, of order—in short,
of government and the institutions
of government; that world peace

What do you know about politics?
On the U. of O. campus there are essentially TWO
political parties. One is the Assoc. Greek Studens—
(A.G.S.)—which is nurtured by certain Greek houses
bent on seeing their men in every office on the campus.
The other party is the United Students Association
(U.S.A.)—made up of all independents and free Greeks
—This party is primarily interested in seeing that every
one is equally represented in student affairs.
