Warren is worried that Willamette University, the Ducks’ first opponent, will spring another upset as they did last season. And Johnny Lewis, Bear cat coach, has been working his squad hard in hopes of doing just that. Tiist who will start for the Webfoots on December 1 is un certain, with more than five men still in the race for opening berths. Big Roger Wiley at center is the only certain starter, the 6-foot, 8 inch letterman being one of the top stars in workouts so far. Probably joining Wiley on the first five will be another letterman, guard Bob Lavey. Lavey has also been showing well, and will be the boy to take over for Stan William son in setting up the i?uck plays. Possible Starter Paul Sowers, the blond transfer from Vanport, is a good possibility to see a lot of starting duty, and he can play at either guard or forward. Sowers is an excellent point-maker, a good ball-handler, and one of the fastest men on the team. Letterman Bob Amacher and Ken ny Seeborg might also break into the opening quint, Amacher at for ward and Seeborg at guard. Others that could also start are forwards Bob Don, Lynn Hamilton, Paul Cooper, Will Urban, and Dale War berg. Backing up Wiley at center will be Rod' Slade and Jerry Switz er with Amcher also available for pivot duty. Guards Plentiful There are plenty of guards around in Dick Unis, Johnny Neel ey, Don Peterson, Leroy Coleman, Jack Keller, Mel Krause and Bill Hutchinson, all capable of seeing action. Yesterday’s scrimmages started off with the “skins” rolling to a 20 14 win over the “shirts”. Wiley was the guiding factor in the win, dump ing in eight points and controlling the boards. Lavey chipped in with six and Peterson four to aid the vic tors. The big guns for the losers were Will Urban and Jerry Switzer who sparkled on the boards against Wil ey and scored six and three points each. Wiley on Boards Wiley’s backboard work was a deciding factor in the second tilt, though Seeborg topped the scorers with two buckets. Art Milne with three points led the losing five. Dale Warberg dropped in three quick buckets to lead the “skins” to a 12-6 win in the third tilt, and looked good in grabbing rebounds. Peterson’s three points were high for the “shirts.” Wiley was again high, scoring four points in a 15-11 “skin” vic tory. Lavey helped out with three points and a good floor game. The losing five were paced by Mel Krause with four points and Cooper with three.
