Director Baffled
By the looks of things in the edu
cational activities department,
only one Oregon student knows
how to play bridge. This startling
fact was discovered in an inter
view with Dick Williams, educa
tional activities manager, who
claimed that, although he has an
nounced his willingness to direct
the recently publicized bridge tour
nament in February, he needs fif
teen more bridge players to par
ticipate. Interested persons may
contact Williams in his office in
McArthur court.
A strict study program need not
interfere, he stressed, as only one
evening will be required to play
the round-by-mail on the campus.
Williams will be sent the kit con
taining the prepared hands, score
sheets, and the necessary instruc
tions for the round. This material
will be kept secret.
The hands will be played Febru
ary 23, 24 or 25, under Williams
supervision, and the score cards
must be in the mail by February
6.
But colleges must indicate their
desire to enter the tournament no
later than December 20, and before
Oregon can enter it must have con
testants.

Clothes for Europe,
Girl Scouts over the nation celebrated the anniversary of
the founding of their organization by starting one of the most
extensive and constructive projects in their history.
The National Council and the American Friends Commit
tee have set 100,000 clothes package^ for Europe as a goal for
their project this year.
The supplement to government aid with personal contri
butions will help answer the desperate call for food and cloth
ing from the European countries. It will also promote friend
ship between the people of the United States and Europe.
With each package of clothes will go a letter from the do
nor. Included also will be a package of paper and a pencil
to further correspondence.
Although this project does not involve the time, money
and expert planning of the European Recovery Program, it
is one of the positive elements that will help to preserve the
shaky peace.
“Clothes for Europe” will answer the “Do A Good Turn
Daily” with letters of appreciation from European young
people who will be a little warmer this winter. D. D.
