He’s Washington’s Howie Odell, who hasn't been with his team on the field a single Saturday this season. A kidney infection set him back until now, but the doctors have given him an okay to attend today's clambake with Oregon provided he doesn’t risk a chance of catching a cold. He has been do ing chalk work with his assistants all week long. In view of Odell's return, the Huskies, one may be certain, have planned to throw a little party for him, the present being a victory at Seattle. Which means that Jim Aiken's Ducks will be running into a fired up host. Aikenmen Rated 10-Point Choice i An up and down team, un beaten in the PCC, and another up and down team, not quite so fortunate, will meet today when the University of Oregon and the University of Washington clash this afternoon in Seattle. Both teams have been unre liable, though the Webfoots have squeaked through in all except one of their games so far this year. The Huskies have won only one game, a surprise 27-6 trouncing of UCLA, but they are reportedly “up” for this game. They might have done better in all their games, provided they had some semblance of scoring punch. They will go into the game today with a three-game scoring drought. Fifth PCC Win in Sight Jim Aiken’s Webfoots will be out to annex their fifth PCC win and stay in the running for the Rose Bowl. Despite bad conditions, the plans include for more unlim bering of the number one offen sive weapon, Norm Van Brock lin’s passing. Van Brocklin will be hampered by wet grounds, but is almost as effective with a wet ball as with a dry one. His top receivers, ends Dick Wilkins and Dan Garza and halfback Johnny McKay, are set to handle the tosses of the ace Duck quarterback. McCullough Ready The Huskies will rely on the passing of Anse McCullough, star of the last “little Rose Bowl” while playing with Chaffey J. C. Like Van Brocklin, he flings from the quarterback slot in the “T” for mation. Both teams will have a “mud horse” backfield in case the scat backs. like McKay of Oregon and Roland Kirkby of the Huskies, will be too bogged down to man euver effectively. The Huskies will have Marshall “The Pounder” Dal las, Jack Seth, and Gordon Hun gar, all close to 190 or above, ready at halfback. For the Webfoots, big DeWayne Johnson, 215-pound defensive star, has been working out at fullback all week, and will be ready to re lieve 199-pound Bob Sanders at the bucking spot. He will also be available for reserve duty at right half, behind George Bell and Keith DeCourcey. The center of the Husky line is expected to be their strong point, with both guards and the center having been named All-Coast at some time in their career, and all having played at least four years at Washington. Center Bill McGovern is in his fifth year at the Seattle school, and is rated as one of the better (Picas? turn to page five) EXECUTIVE CAREERS IN RETAILING One-year Course leads to Master's Degree • Prepare to step into a responsible executive position in the retailing field: buying, advertising, fashion, personnel. This thought was expressed yes terday by Victor Schmidt, commis sioner of the Pacific Coast confer ence, who declared he knew of no rule which would prevent a play off game in the event that the two elevens finished in a deadlock for the conference championship. Furthermore, he believed that the only step necessary in arrang ing such a contest would be simply for the two schools to agree to it mutually. Concerning the possibility of a conference team playing in a bowl game other than the Rose Bowl, Schmidt was uncertain since this matter has not come up in quite a few years. To enjoy the local scenery at this time, one needs only keep his eyes open and his ears covered.
