    Committee Announces Social Policy
The following rules, regulations,
and procedures governing social
life at the University of Oregon
were formulated by the student af
fairs committee during the fall
term of 1946-7.
Students attending the Univer
sity will be governed by these reg
ulations.
I. GENERAL POLICIES OF THE
STUDENT AFFAIRS COMMIT
TEE:
A. The associate directors of stu
dent affairs in charge of men and
women, and the educational activi
ties manager may revise specific
dates appearing on the campus so
cial calendar.
B. Every social event must be
registered in the office of the as
sociate director of student affairs
in charge of women not later than
5 p.m. of the Monday preceding the
event. Stag affairs will be regis
tered in the office of the associate
director of student affairs in charge
of men.
C. The closed period for all events
is from 5 p.m. of the Friday pre
ceding examination week through
examination week.
II. HOURS:
A. Closing hours are: 10:30 p.m.
Sunday through Thursday, 12:15
a.m. Friday, and 1:00 a.m. Satur
day.
B. Social events after 7:30 p.m.
may be held on Friday and Satur
day only.
C. Exchange desserts may be
held in the living organizations
Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30
p.m.; but no time may be spent in
preparation for such events. Open
houses may be held on Wednesday
from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. or on
Friday or Saturday nights.
D. All functions held on Friday
or Saturday nights must terminate
at midnight.
. E. Hours during which men are
allowed in women’s houses are as
follows:
Monday through Thursday:
Noon-1:00 p.m.; 4:00-7:30 p.m.;
10:00-10:30 p.m.
Friday: Noonl :00 p.m.; 4:00
p.m.;-12:15 a.m.
Saturday: Noon-1:00 a.m.

III. SOCIAL, LIFE OF LIVING
ORGANIZATIONS:
A. Living organizations may
have two major house dances a
year. These dances must be held in
the living quarters of the organi
zation or in a University-controlled
building. They may be held on Sat
urday nights only.
B. Informal house functions, such
as firesides, radio or dinner dances,
are restricted to Friday or Satur
day nights. No time must be con
sumed in preparation for these
events.
C. Houses must be well lighted
for dances, and porch lights must
be left on all evening.
D. Costumes worn to dances held
on the campus must be in good
taste.
E. House guests:
1. House guests and alumni vis
itors are required to obey all Uni
versity regulations, including clos
ing hours; house-guest and alumni
privileges to be withdrawn if these
regulations are violated.
2. Women are not allowed above
the first floor of men’s houses, and
men are not allowed above first
floor of women’s houses.
3. Women are not allowed to go
to men’s houses (fraternities, co
ops, rooms, boarding houses, or
apartments) unless chaperoned, ex
cept when conducting official Uni
versity business or making official
announcements.
IV. SOCIAL EVENTS OF
SCHOOLS, DEPARTMENTS,
OR ALLIED FRATERNITIES
AND HONORARIES:
A. Attendance at such social
events must be restricted to the
students of the school or depart
ment, or members of the organiza
tions, and invited guests, and may
not be all-campus in scope. (An ex
ception is made in the case of
Scabbard and Blade’s traditional
Military ball.)
B. The school or department is
held responsible for the proper con
duct of the event.
C. University regulations must
be obeyed.
D. Such events must be held in
a University-controlled building.
E. Such events must not conflict
with important University func
tions.
V. ALL-CAMPUS DANCES:
A. Major:
1. Seven major all-campus dances
will be allowed, namely, Homecom
ing, Mortar Board, Military Ball,
Frosh Glee, Sophomore Whisker
ino, Junior Prom, and Senior Ball.
2. These dances must be held in
McArthur court, on Saturday eve
nings only.
3. The ticket sale must be re
stricted to 1,200 couples.
4. Big-name bands:
a. The dates of dances will not
be changed for the convenience of
big-name bands.
b. Booking of big-name bands
will be approved only if the cost
can be financed under a sound
dance budget.
B. Minor
1. Minor all-campus dances of a
rally nature may be held on occa
sions when desirable, under the fol
lowing conditions:
a. Normally, the dance must be
held on Saturday night.
b. Normally, the dance must be
held in Gerlinger hall.
c. The administration of these
dances lies with the Educational
Activities Manager.
VI. RALLIES, SERENADES,
PARADES:
A. The administration of rallies
and parades is the responsibility of
the dean of men. Such events:
1. Must be scheduled 24 hours in
advance.
2. Must not conflict with class
hours or normal study hours.
3. Must not be held on Sundays.
B. Organized serenades are al
lowed on Friday and Saturday
nights. Such serenades:
1. Must terminate within one
hour after normal closing hours.
2. Must be cleared with the dean
of men 24 hours in advance.
VII. OFF-CAMPUS DANCES:
A. No University - sponsored
dances outside of the Eugene area
are allowed.
B. All dances sponsored by living
organizations in the Eugene area
must be held in the organizations’
living quarters or in a University
controlled building.
VIII. CHAPERONAGE:
A. Official chaperones shall be
limited to members of the faculty.
B. The dean of women will de
termine the number of chaperones
that will be adequate for social af
fairs.
C. A chaperonage fee of $5.00
must be paid to the University of
Dregon cashier for each social func

the dean of women.
IX. RALLY COMMITTEE:
A. It is the duty of the Rally
committee to promote Oregon
spirit, foster good sportsmanship,
and arrange for all rallies, both on
and off the campus, and to assist
the yell leader if called upon to do
so in performing card stunts and
other forms of entertainment pre
pared for athletic events.
X. CHARTERS:
The following procedure shall
govern the application for charters:
A. Local: Individuals wishing to
start a local organization must sub
mit, for approval by the Student
Affairs committee, its constitution
and by-laws and the signatures of
interested persons.
B. National: Local organizations
wishing to affiliate with a national
organization must present, for ap
proval by the Student Affairs com
mittee, the name of the national,
the local membership roll, national
dues, financial setup of the nation
al, etc.
XI. RECOGNITION OF
ORGANIZATIONS:
A. Organizations must be offi
cially recognized if they
1. Purport to represent the Uni
versity in any way.
2. Bear the name of the Univer
sity.
3. Influence the well-being of the
University by their public contacts.
B. Any organization may be re
quested to submit the following:
1. A statement of its aims and
functions.
2. Its constitution and by-laws.
3. Its membership roll and spon
sor.
4. Time and place of meeting.
Drama Tickets
Placed on Sale
Season tickets to the Univer
sity theater’s six scheduled produc
tions for thsi year will go on sale
at $5 each in the Johnson hall box
office Monday, September 27, a
day before the office will be open
to the general public. Included in
the price is admittance to the spe
cial spectacle production held in
McArthur court, for which regular
single admission is $2.40. More
than one of the admissions may be
used for a single production, and
tickets are transferable. The season
ticket offers first choice of reserved
seats and is the only assurance of
obtaining the best seats. It repre
sents a season’s saving of $2.40.
Demand for the tickets was so
great last year that it was impos
sible to accommodate everyone
wishing them. It is therefore ad
vised that those interested apply
early either to the box office or to
authorized agents on the campus.
No season tickets will be sold after
October SO.
Frosh Party Slated
An officers meeting of the YW
CA sophomore commission has been
called by Barbara Stevenson, pres
ident, Wednesday, September 22, at
4 p.m. at the Bungalow. Plans for
the freshman party will be dis
cussed.
